Long Shadows Vintners

Feather Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Mr Dunn has another hit! I’m a red fanatic with no shame. But it truly compliments the strong Long Shadows Collection with it’s intense starting notes and light finish. — 10 months ago

Paul Jaboulet Aîné

La Chapelle Hermitage Syrah 1998

Until Caroline Frey took over wine making responsibilities, “La Chapelle” was sort of known to me as a perennial underachiever with very few vintages in the last 40 years really meeting their potential. The late 90’s was perhaps the deepest point of the malaise. That being said, this bottle proves that the underpinnings were always there and I found it to be very enjoyable, if not quite on the level of the other examples of late-90’s Hermitage we enjoyed on the night. There is still quite a bit of life left. — 2 years ago

The 1991 an outlier? Only compared to what came after. Before it was fabulous ( with 1990, 1978 and 1964 some of the best wines I have ever tasted).

@Stefan Dolhain The last 40 years, which only covers back through the early 1980’s, Jaboulet has underachieved. That was my statement; context. And actually, I really meant that 1990 was the outlier. Can’t speak to the 1991. Regardless, no sense in you and I fussing about it since it’s my opinion anyway and who cares what I think in the grand scheme of things 😅

It all depends on what you have tasted Jay. La Chapelle 1964 - 1991 was definitely one of the best verticals in my wine career. But in the end it all comes down to personal taste anyway.

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

Takes the reins as best ever Dunn Cabernet for me…needed 45 mins out of Magnum, nose all Bordeaux of cedar and cigar box with a touch of cassis. Velvety palate, layers of red cherry and chocolate espresso bean, long, long finish. Find and drink now if you can. — 19 days ago

Château La Lagune

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

“Many a trip continues long after movement in time and space have ceased.” John Steinbeck

Wine - it can take you places. Last night reminiscing about recent Paris travels so I pulled this beaute to enjoy with a friend. @55Seventy

Chateau La Lagune is located in the appellation of Haut-Medoc. This House was classified as a Third Growth in 1855. It was sold to the Frey family in 2000. The winemaker/owner, Caroline Frey, produced her first vintage in 2004. Her wines are described as having finesse, elegance and harmony. The 2010 is a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

2004. So structured, drinking wonderfully. Fruit is red and black and pretty muted. Smooth and easy mouthfeel. Also getting some pencil shavings, cedar, wet earth. — 23 days ago

Trailer Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Delectable Wine
9.8

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Trailer is a young wine that has a bit more mid-palate juiciness, texture and sweetness than the Howell Mountain Cabernet. Dark red fruit, blood orange, rose petals, and spice abound. This is a powerful, inky and explosive wine. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2024)

Château Bouscassé (Alain Brumont)

Vieilles Vignes Madiran Tannat 1990

Rich dark and red fruits, still some evident firm, tannic structure (but I guess cellaring Madiran is like cellaring Dunn Howell Mountain, as life may not be long enough for them to shed their tannins? LOL), long, lingering firm finish, really quite fine!! — 2 years ago
