After a month off of any type of ethanol content to prepare for a marathon that I ran and finished earlier today, it's about time for me to come back on here. My first entry post break and race is a celebration post. And what better way to celebrate than with a proper bubbly?
The nose shows some reductive notes of sour apple, along with green apple, brioche and croissant. It's very inviting. The palate is very dry and acid driven but shows again these superb notes of croissant and some lemon curd too. The bubbles are subtle and complement the pastry notes very well. The finish is fresh, lemony, zingy and quite long. It's really a great champagne and it's been a while since I last tasted such a quality one. Great stuff and perfect way of celebrating a sport achievement ✌🏻 — a year ago
Just an incredibly delicious super solid Chablis. Lemon, lavender and minerals. Bracing. Great food wine. At $20 a wine to have within reach at all times. — 4 years ago
Coming in at the same quality as the 2022, the 2021 Condrieu Chéry is an athletic Viognier, neatly capturing energy and freshness. Banana, apricot, peach, vanilla, blossom and honeysuckle all race out of the glass. Medium-bodied at most, it concludes with solid persistence on the stimulating finale. Medium ruby quite wide light garnet rim . Touches of wood spice and ripe strawberry , raspberry , star anise . Quite ripe and sweet fruit in the mouth, touches of dry spices as well. There is a meaty quality to this in the palate , quite rich and mouth-filling . Ok acidity , quite ripe but noticeable tannins , just protruding alcohol . On the finish nice ripe slightly darker fruits, spiced strawberries , ok length . Probably just slightly young , needs another couple of years and will hold well for at least further 6-8 years. The recently tried 2016 Moonlight Race impressed me a little more than this — a year ago
The 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus is pure and total seduction. Trotanoy and perhaps also Hosanna have traditionally been viewed as more exclusive Pomerols in the Moueix portfolio. The more time passes, the less I share that view. Sure, La Fleur-Pétrus does not have the mystique associated from a small single vineyard - as many Pomerols do - and yet there is no denying the elegance and class here. Bright red fleshed fruit, blood orange and exotic spice race across the palate, framed by silky, plush tannins that wrap it all together. La Fleur-Pétrus is fabulous. That's all there is to it. Definitely smooth! Drinks like a blend with spicey notes. Almost thought it had a % of zin or Syrah. Loved it! Great with pizza! — 4 years ago
The 2019 Chablis Les Vaillons Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has a lovely, charming bouquet with orange pith, tinned peach and light apricot scents that probably make it sound more tropical than it actually is. The palate is well-balanced with a waxy-textured opening. Certainly, this represents one of the more concentrated wines of the flight, grippy and pithy, maybe just missing a little tension and race toward the finish? Otherwise, this should age well in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, December 2023)

Much more subtle than I anticipated & compared to Chidaine, Huet, etc. Probably a bit closed & can use a decant at this stage. All kinds of pulverized shells & a low key minerality, long & lean in terms of texture. No wool or wax here. White flowers, Asian pear, & I want to say raw yellow zucchini ( though I may regret that). All kinds of complexity to taste. A ‘contemplative’ rather than a race horse wine-& hope my homeboy will hang onto his others so we can taste what age will do. Opened during an exhilarating Knicks win. — 2 years ago
The 2019 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict emerges from Block T15, one of the original parcels planted in 1971. It is a bright, focused jewel of a wine. Crushed rocks, mint, white pepper and lemon peel all race out of the glass. The 2019 is a bundle of energy. Give it a few years to come together. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, October 2021)
