Yes—exactly that kind of wine: timeless, composed, and quietly authoritative.
It smells so good on first pour. Damp pine forest floor and clean mountain air register immediately. Everything else unravels from there; but that initial pop-and-pour sniff is pure magic.
On the palate, blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, and dried herbs unfold with control, carried by freshness and finely etched tannins in a medium body.
So classic, so intellectual, and deeply mesmerizing. Drink now or age. — 6 months ago
Pop and pour. A brilliant medium gold color. On the nose: lemon, grilled pear, crushed stone, apricot, caramel, and honey. Taste: chalky, lean acid driven style with pear, steely minerality, green apple, saline, orange/lemon rind, and a medium plus finish. YUM! My favorite Napa chardonnay. — 9 months ago

Double decant for sediment and pour. A splendid still dark tawny red color. On the nose: expressive notes of stewed blackberry/plum, worn leather, musty forest floor, truffles, mint. Taste: silky, elegant, savory wine with dried strawberries, leather, cedar, earth, and a peppery chocolate espresso medium plus finish. YUM! Still delivering like a champ at 45 years and glad to have a couple more bottles — a year ago

Pop and pour at a restaurant over 3 hrs. So approachable and easy to drink considering it was a 2017 (drinking in 2022). Very rounded and a bit velvety, although had good minerality.
At first, very floral aromas more fruit forward, lots of cherry.
Over time, more classic rose and tar aromas and anise. Violets.
Taste became more earthy rather than fruity. Pretty good minerality too which was interesting. — 4 years ago
Juicy ripe fruit on the nose, meaty and smoky on the palate. Love this one — 5 years ago

Decant for sediment and pour(decent chunky/fine sediment). A striking dark ruby red color. On the nose: jumping from the glass are port drenched cherries, pencil shavings, tobacco, toffee, balsamic, and cinnamon. Taste: silky, balanced, still fresh wine with currants, little dried cherry, tobacco, earth, dried herbs, and a spicy saline graphite satisfying finish. YUM! In the home stretch, drink. — 5 months ago

Decant for sediment and pour(lots of chunky sediment). A still dark garnet color with some bricking. On the nose: bursting from the glass are perfumed notes of stewed red fruit, wet forest floor, worn leather, eucalyptus, herbaceous, little funky earth. Taste: silky smooth savory wine with dried red cherry, spice, espresso, loamy earth and a graphite cocoa nice long finish. YUM! always a treat drinking aged Seavey and this has aged gracefully. Glad to have more bottles! — 7 months ago

Double decant and pour(lots of sediment). A splendid medium ruby red color. On the nose: a little stewed red fruit, herbaceous, worn leather, mint, sweet smokey oak, loamy soil. Taste: smooth, elegant, savory wine with a touch of dried red fruit, dried herbs, cocoa, damp earth, minerals, and a spiced iron/meaty medium finish. YUM! Mature and on the long downside, but still drinks nicely at 28 years. — 10 months ago

Really enjoyed this Riesling! Had the typical petroleum aroma along with floral and citrus notes. Sweet flavors especially a nice grapefruit tone. Short crisp finish. Enjoyed it with shrimp. — 2 years ago
Pop and pour. About 2 years since my last btl. Wow, stunning now.. Cola, soft nuits earth and game, dried raspberry and wild strawberry, perfume for days. On the palate: fantastic acidity, a touch thin, but somehow simultaneous denser on the finish, which shows loads of spice, strawberry. — 4 years ago
Bottle says medium sweet, has some fruity taste, great taste overall — 5 years ago
Pop and pour. A majestic lite gold color. On the nose: crisp apples, lemon, almonds, floral, and honey. Taste: creamy, beautiful texture and nice acidity wine with apple, pear, lemon zest, saline, flint, and a minerally lime peel medium plus finish. YUM! Maturing gracefully and time to go. — 7 months ago

Pop and pour at Luce in San Francisco. A majestic dark ruby red color. On the nose: bursting from the glass are beautiful notes of plum, stewed meat, cedar, some black raspberry, smoke, floral. Had mine with Round Table Double Pepperoni 🍕 🤷🏼♂️Fermé à l’ouverture mais se révèle ensuite de façon magistrale, puissant et racé, très typé rive gauche, un vrai délice. 93-94
Closed when opened ( pop and Pour) but reveals itself after with such grace and power, very left bank, great potential and great bottle. — 5 years ago
