Podere La Pace

Caillez-Lemaire

Brut Nature Damery Pur Meunier 2015

Nose: sweet roses.

Palate: delicious. Long. Really good. Perfect fruit. Nice balancing minerality . Some brioche as this opens. Pleasant hint of bitterness.

Terrific change of pace wine. Had with cucumber salad and pastrami salmon and a side of celery with blue cheese sauce.

Château Lafleur

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

Delectable Wine
9.6

The 1995 Lafleur was bought and served blind by Baptiste Guinaudeau at a dinner in Saint-Émilion. It's not dissimilar to the bottle drunk in 2018. On the nose, there is black fruit with graphite and game hints. Given that it is now 27 years old, the 1995 is maturing at a glacial pace. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins that loosen up with aeration. With blackberry, black truffle and a touch of smoke, this Lafleur exudes Cabernet Franc on the finish. I thought that it might be ready to drink now, but this suggests it would be better to wait. Tasted in Bordeaux. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2023) — 2 years ago

Produttori del Barbaresco

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2013

From a 3L bottle that I have cellared since release. I always hesitate to open these large format bottles, instead making excuses to hold them for longer since they tend to age at a glacial pace. However, we were hosting a large group of people for my 40th birthday dinner and since we were having lamb and rice, and big bottles are meant for big parties, and the world hasn’t been able to enjoy many big parties over the last 14 months, I figured WTFN. In an attempt to maximize the potential of the bottle, I pulled the cork almost 30 hours prior, a recommendation from by buddy Tim who tends to know a lot more about these things. I left the bottle in my cellar, allowing it to slow-ox. By dinner the following evening, this was absolutely singing. Gorgeous, translucent ruby color with a slight brownish rim. Ripe red fruits just ever so slightly stewed, red flowers, dry earth, and dried Mediterranean herbs. This bottle was positively bursting with energy! Bone dry. Medium+ tannin; medium+ acid. The finish was long and somewhat saline and was an absolutely sublime pairing with our Khaleeji fare. A fabulous bottle and a much better showing than the 2013 (standard format) that I recall drinking a few years back. — 4 years ago

Hohenmorgen GG Riesling 2020

Zingy lemon acidity and minerality. This is aging at a glacial pace which is quite annoying...could be this years wine. Come back in 5-10 years. — 8 months ago

Domaine Tortochot

Les Champeaux Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2012

Bon soir from Paris and and change of pace to burgundy. Since canard was on the menu tonight, a burgundy seemed appropriate. A little tightly wound, this Gevery Chambertin was light and peppery with sour cherries and good acidity. Nice pairing with some excellent duck. — 3 years ago

October 2019!

Beautiful label ‘Adopt the pace of nature; Her secret is Patience’ ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mother Nature is intriguing and elusive, reigning with grace and beauty. There is no doubt that she is the one True Myth. We respect her for the enigma that she is and honour her with a beautiful Cab Sav - smooth wine loaded with blackberry & cherry, touch of caramel.

Enjoyable, love the label - intrigued me to try and so glad I did!

Domaine Maume

Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2010

Gorgeous, flinty nose with hint of barnyard. Grippy tannins. Hint of coffee and soy sauce after 3 hours. Almost Valentini Cerasuolo-ish. Imperial Treasure Teochew Ion with Andrew Dutton.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There I was suggesting that Maume's Mazis-Chambertin 2011 was clearly not the pick from the domaine this vintage and lo and behold, it trumps all in a blind tasting. It has quite an earthy note on the nose with mint-tinged red fruit and black plum unfurling at its own leisurely pace in the glass. Later, this is joined by fennel and rosemary scents, creating an intriguing aromatics profile. The palate is medium-bodied, a touch foursquare on the entry, but with good substance, the texture grainy and quite peppery toward the finish. There is a lot going on in this grand cru and it will be fascinating to see how it develops and if it maintains this stellar quality. RP95, 2011, issued Nov 2014
