Bricco Ambrogio Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour while preparing our meal. The 2010 “Bricco Ambrogio” pours a deep garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe, predominately red fruits: raspberries, cranberry, and pomegranate with roses, tar, dried green herbs, clay garden pot and soft warm spices. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and grippy. I have indicated in recent notes that 2010 Barolos are finally starting to show their quality. They will be very long lived and this is no exception. Drink now with patience and through 2050+. — 3 days ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2004

Belated post from Mother’s Day dinner. This was in full splendor at 20 years old. It was ready and had many secondary notes intertwined with primary flavors of rose petals, leather, wood shavings, yes the tar was there but not as pronounced as I have found in younger Barolos from Conterno. A gem found in the cellar that I’m glad I didn’t wait another day to open. — a month ago

Riserva Monfortino Barolo Nebbiolo 2008

Second bottle from this vintage that I have enjoyed but this one I purchased from a local wine shop. Opened very nicely after 2.5 hours and enjoyed over 5 hours. Cherry notes were bursting through but mature and deep. Blended wonderfully with the earthiness. This wine is still a baby and think I will do my best to sit on my remaining 2008s for at least 5 more years. — 11 days ago

Conca Tre Pile Barbera d'Alba 2019

I thought this had a harsh taste at first, but then it really opened up and grew on me. The harshness softened, maybe was mulberry. Definitely some sour cherry. Medium to full bodied. I liked more than light pinots, not as much as Barolo. — 9 hours ago

Vignota Barbera d'Alba 2022

On the nose, this is bright blackberry, raspberry, and foreboding char... On the palate, this becomes all cranberry to me... Concentrated... Juicy... Acidic... Refreshing... Leather... Tannins are just carpet-level... Bright all the way theough a long finish... Cocoa? I love a great Barbera and I chose this wine as a pairing for a Carbonara pasta dish I was making... I thought this was an outstanding pairing nicely cutting through the oiliness of the dish, playing well with the egg, and honestly the length here made it a great sipper between tastes of the pasta. Loved it. — a month ago

Rosso de Véo Umbria Rosso Sagrantino 2015

stylistically not for me but glad it was poured. lots of christmas spices, black fruit and prickly tannins. big, boisterous bastard but still, wore the 15% quite elegantly if i do say so myself. — 8 days ago
