Jumped back on the horse with an 08 when the 99 proved fake. This one was the real deal. Wasn’t the best Monfortino though. Decanted and let it open for several hours while the Super Bowl unfolded. Go Eagles!!! Layered and foreboding. It didn’t have the best balance with the fruit but it was nonetheless a weighty joy.

Feb 15th, 2025Utterly magnificent.. stunningly good and near perfect. Hits all my buttons and is my favorite wine. Let decant about 90 minutes. Smooth as silk. Bursting fruit mixed beautifully with forest and truffle like earthiness.

Oct 27th, 2024Second bottle from this vintage that I have enjoyed but this one I purchased from a local wine shop. Opened very nicely after 2.5 hours and enjoyed over 5 hours. Cherry notes were bursting through but mature and deep. Blended wonderfully with the earthiness. This wine is still a baby and think I will do my best to sit on my remaining 2008s for at least 5 more years.

Jun 15th, 2024Opened very slowly. Little sediment and only light staining on the cork. This was without signature for the first 30 minutes. Very slight cherry and tar notes. Pleasant but nothing much evident. After 2 hours of decanting it opened and was more resonant but it never exceeded “generally nice”. Nothing was amiss but nothing zoomed or was special. Finish was not particularly long. Tannins were mellow. Bouquet was modest but somewhat inviting. Color was pale with orange rim. This was an auction purchase.
