Sleeping Lady Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Deep purple in color with a short purple rim.

Pretty nose of blueberries, blackberries, plums, cedar, tobacco leaf, light earth, herbs, spices, chocolates and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, cedar, licorice, light vanilla, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs, black tea, peppercorn and espresso.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Soft, rich and elegant. Fruit forward, easy drinking and not in your face kind of wine.

This Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is good right out of the bottle, and better after 3 hours of airtime, which I didn't have this time.

This 9 year old will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, and paired nicely with grilled Lamb chops.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in (70% new) French oak barrels for 20 months. A small production of 7,200 bottles.

14.7% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$180.

Caillard

Mataro 2015

A bright ruby red. Black and blue fruits, Five spice and a tarry note. My last of 6 - and possibly the best. See my Delectable note in April 2022 for the first of 6. I am always in admiration of Andrew Caillard MW and his multiple talents when I look at this label which he painted. A beautiful expression of old vine Barossa Mataro (Mourvèdre). — 5 months ago

@Jan de Weerd Interesting Jan. I think that Mourvèdre vineyard of the Hewitsons is one of the oldest plantings of Mourvèdre in the world if not THE oldest in the world.

Thanks for sending that clip Jan. A fascinating story isn’t it. A special piece of vinous history and the wine is special.

Our Lady of Guadalupe

OLG Pinot Noir

This Pinot Noir from Our Lady of Guadalupe Vineyard in Santa Ynez delivers a lively mix of dried violets, plum, and boysenberry, complemented by the jammy tang of underripe raspberries. Subtle hints of smoky tobacco and cured meat add a savory edge, while bright notes of raspberry, strawberry, and blueberry keep it fresh and vibrant. The finish is clean and slightly earthy, striking a balance between elegance and approachability. It’s a distinctive Pinot that speaks to the character of its vineyard with clarity and charm. — 2 months ago

Glenelly Estate

Lady May Cabernet Sauvignon Petit Verdot 2017

Dark and brooding, the flagship 2017 Lady May from Glenelly is effusive from the first pour, with aromas of black cherry, purple herbs, baking spice and chocolate. The palate is distinctly savoury, with a spicy quality that represents quite a contrast from prior vintages. This is an altogether quite serious offering and perhaps lacks the glossy suave character of, say, the 2015, which I prefer at this stage. But this should be absolutely fantastic in around 5-10 years’ time and I can’t wait to try it again. — 5 months ago
