Another fine vintage here. Arpepe really leaned into the 2017 style and made really pretty wines that could not be more different than the dense. powerful and structured 16’s. I can’t think of 2 more contrasting back to back vintages right now. Maybe 02/03 German Riesling.
Anyway nose is mysterious smokey spices and some faint mid asian cherry but dominated now by spice and florals that are picking up by the second. Palate is generous, forward and has a sense of restrained richness. Tannins are ripe but mineral driven and the fruit stain on the backend is wonderful and the backend is so long. Really compelling stuff in a notorious vintage for Langhe Nebbiolo and not the best in Valtellina. Arpepe is truly a great winery more for wines like this than wines in obviously great vintages like 16/13 and 2010. — 2 years ago
Decadent #mountveeder #cabernetsauvignon from Nice Wines. 75% Cab, 16% #stmacaire, 8% #merlot - beautifully balanced full-bodied red. Hedonistic blackberry liqueur, plum, touch of tobacco, dried mint on the nose. Beautifully integrated oak, lush acidity to balance out that big fruit and fine tannins that build on the tongue over repeated sips. For the $60 member price, this is my idea of awesome Napa mountain Cab. — 3 years ago

Spanish Cava is a very budget friendly bubbly and uses the same "Champagne method" as that notorious region in France. I have enjoyed many of the Cordorniu sparklers over the years but ran into this Blanc De Blancs, which is the very first of this style for me! Lemon, lime, apples, crushed rocks, floral, delicate, and mild biscuits. Rating considers QPR! I wonder if Champagne prices are ever going to decline! 🤔 — 9 months ago
The 2016 was lovely with porkchops, plantains and sauteed squash.

Nice Wines mountain #malbec from Napa - which in of itself is interesting. Wine pours an inky purple-black. This is one of the highest extract red wines I’ve ever tasted. 86% #mtveeder / 14% #howellmountain fruit. Luxuriant cassis, intense bramble fruit aromas. Despite the extraction, the mountain fruit brings fulfilling acid balance and plush tannins round out the finish. Delicious wine. — 3 years ago

7 years since my last btl. A bit brawny in style, but I chalk it up in part to the vintage. Gorgeous ORPN now. — 3 months ago
