New Eden

Domaine Eden

Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

This is a wonderful expression of Santa Cruz Mountain Cab, caught in a state of absolute grace. I might be lucky with the specific bottle but it's really shining through like a mini superstar. Small red and black fruits are still preserved in a dusty state, in harmony with the emerging leather, pipe tobacco, and graphite, strikingat great balance between freshness and complexity. The nose is giving a preview of the palate, where the canines show completely evolved, silkyyet substantial. Again, lucky me, because it's in a state of grace. — 13 days ago

Pours a purple hue with some fading at the rim; aromas of black and red fruit; raspberry, blackberry, some dark cherry, and cassis; palate with good acidity, congruent with the nose; there is a bit of vanilla clove baking spice oak on the palate. Alcohol is moderate at 13.5; I like the wine, and I don’t drink a whole lot of American wines. The oak influence should be more delicate in my opinion, as the fruit is pretty elegant. It overwhelms a bit, and holds it back. I have doubts that this aspect will improve with bottle age, but I have another couple bottles and will leave in the cellar as an experiment. — a month ago

@Zach D Cautiously optimistic that overt oak will completely fade into the background in 7-8 years and the wine will truly blossom.

Felton Road

Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2019

Unmistakably Central Otago to my palate. Red plums and raspberries. 20% of the grapes were whole bunch. Also aged in 27% new oak. I must mention Neil Martin’s famous Quote, “ Whenever there is a tasting designed to challenge the supremacy of Burgundy, it is usually Felton Road that is ushered into the ring”. Very much on allocation these days and can be difficult to source. — 4 months ago

Better acidity than burgundy.

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2025

This is a secret weapon for parties. Consistently good and punches way above its weight class. The nose is saline (sweat) and grassy. Flavors of lemon, grapefruit, peach. Lower acidity, which makes it a party favor. My friends say, "This isn't too dry..." On sale for $10, but i would splurge and pay $12 😛

I find this to be an easy drinker and a good value. Fruit salad- plenty of peach, pineapple, apricots, lemon, and some grass. A hint of tar in the nose.

Ravines Wine Cellars

Dry Finger Lakes Riesling 2017

2017 Ravine White Springs Vineyard Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes). Nine years old and still seems youthful. Great nose of zesty Granny Smith and slightly unripe Cortland apples and lots of high-toned stony minerality. Palate is concentrated and intense, lots of crisp acid to balance the deep fruit and intense stones. Lipsmackingly delicious. 9.3 (This is a re-post because @Delectable Wine deep-sixed the original) — 3 months ago

Burn Cottage

Central Otago Pinot Noir 2022

Home vineyard bottling. Dark and brooding on the nose. Classic Central. Dark fruit, savoury spice, earth. The palate has good weight and concentration of dark slightly sour cherry, and wood spice. Enough acid to provide the structure needed to hold the power together — 2 months ago

Canberra District Shiraz Viognier 2015

No note on Delectable since May 2017 - 473 weeks ago. Smoked meat, Asian spices - an intoxicating nose. On the medium bodied palate - sweet red fruits with spices. Tim Kirk, the owner and winemaker said at the time it was the best Shiraz Viognier he had ever made for what is considered the benchmark for this blend in Australia. 98 points from HH and 18.5 points+ from Jancis. Very detailed as you would expect from Tim Kirk. — 3 months ago
