Moulin D'issan

Château des Jacques Moulin-à-Vent Gamay 2014

Gastronomic style. Pleasant appreciation of aging with toasted, spices. Almost oily mouth texture, ample style. Lacks a little freshness to hang the tasting.

I’m not a big Beaujolais fan but this is about as good as it gets. Give it a little time for some funk to blow off. Bright black and red berry fruit, fruit roll up. Great structure, grip and lift. — 8 days ago

Cœur de Terroirs Vieilles Vignes Moulin-a-Vent Gamay 2013

Years did this justice. Moulin-A-Vent can be a bit of a beast in it's youth, this has settled out into a lovely savory Bojo, kinda shroomy, smoked meat, cherries. 13%. Good. — a month ago

Moulin Touchais

Coteaux du Layon Chenin Blanc 1981

Last of the 1981 bottles I bought for my dear wife’s birthday and I believe this was the best. The cork was in incredible condition, looked only a few years old - Ah So made easy work of it. After allowing it to warm a bit - caramel apple, some barnyard funk on the nose, plus an under layer of fresh green apple. Palate is beautifully balanced, no sign of fatigue at all - this #coteauxdulayon #cheninblanc could coast for ages it seems. Caramel and honey notes, fleshy texture, some lemon, piercing acidity cutting through that sweetness, and more fresh green apple underlaying the baked notes. This was a nice counterpoint to the Sauternes we had closer to her actual birthday and a compelling alternative. — 19 days ago

Toichais lasts forever! We celebrated my parents’ 50th anniversary with a 1959 and it was as good as new! Better even!

@Byron C Mayes what a nice celebration. This wine seems ageless.

Château d'Issan

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

The 2008 Issan I showing all of its refined, Bordeaux splendor. It’s dark, plummy and cherry notes, with wet slate and some leather have reached their full maturity and I can’t see them getting a better. I’d say the 2008 has another 5-6 years at this level before it will start to fade a bit. — 7 days ago

Le Mont Moulin á Vent Gamay 2019

Deep, rich red fruit on the nose, gummy bears, a hint of leather. Some floral and herbal notes follow, with mushroomy earth, funk, and autumn leaves hiding underneath. The palate reveals even deeper notes of raw oyster mushroom, stewed cherry, dried leaves, and flowers pressed in a book. A slight tang of marjoram. A hint of ash. Characterful and distinct, a bit richer and heavier than most Moulin-Á-Vent. — 12 days ago
