Molino A Vento

Vigneti Massa

Costa del Vento Derthona Colli Tortonesi Timorasso 2021

Gold hue. Aromas and flavors of apple, apricot, bell pepper, lemon, and petrol, with a hint of grass and creamy notes. Medium body with medium-plus acidity. Silky and rounded mouthfeel. Complex bouquet. Elegant and balanced, with a lasting finish. — a month ago

Il Molino di Grace

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2016

Medium garnet to the edge with a medium nose of red & black fruits with some earth and light leather or earth. Medium bodied with clear acidity but balanced tannins. — 3 months ago

Molino Real

Mountain Blanco Moscatel de Alejandría 2018

Very floral aromas with a hint of citrus, light on the palate with citrus acidity, the floral comes through but is balanced by lots of saline minerality. Very nice, Mr. Rodriquez! — 7 months ago

Tenuta Col d'Orcia

Poggio al Vento Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2012

Hot nose, big floral, fat berry, tar, chocolate. Medium dry tannins, lots of oak, takes away a bit from the fruit. Tight. Needs to breathe. I’ll wait to score. After two hours it’s put on weight. Fruit came out and tannins became well integrated. I’d have given it a 87-88 on opening but now it’s a solid 92. — a month ago

Fratelli Molino

Le Querce Dolcetto d'Alba 2021

Juicy, acidic cherry cola nose, lush but soft fruit-forward palate, nice finish with a bit of oak and raspberry candy. Easy going and delicious. — 3 months ago

Langhe DOC Nebbiolo 2019

NOSE: anise, vanilla, strawberry and blackberry liqueur

TASTE: bright, medium weight - lots of berries: dried cherries, strawberry, black raspberry, mulberry - a zing of oregano, plus warm baking spices. Strawberry became the dominant fruit flavor as it got more air. I this much better than the last vintage I tried. 90.

Barolo Nebbiolo 2018

Popped and poured. The 2018 pours a light garnet with a transparent core. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, developing with a pretty bouquet of raspberry, strawberry, red flowers, a little tar, some herbs, some baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acids. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. Like many 2018’s, this shows the lighter, more aromatic side of Nebbiolo however, I find it no less enjoyable. This one simply lacks the power many come to expect. Drink now through 2038. — 2 months ago

Gallinotto Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Gallinotto is an official vineyard located within the Giachini MGA. It’s notably unique due to its exposure and soil composition relating much closer to Rocche dell’Annunziata, just a bit lower in altitude. FWIW, I have found that the Barolo of Mauro Molino get more interesting with each passing vintage; presenting a really smart value.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over a two hour period. The 2019 “Gallinotto” pours a bright garnet with a translucent core and a slightly orange rim. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, developing with predominantly fresh red fruits: raspberries, cherries, strawberries with some pomegranate, roses, orange peel, gravely earth and gentle warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with sneaky high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is a very elegant expression; juicy with a lovely, slick texture. Power is not a word I would use here but it’s very attractive. Drink now and over the next 15 years.

Ausario Barbaresco Nebbiolo

Surprisingly nice for the price point. Very inky dark pour and a bit tight out of the bottle. Opened nicely after an hour to loads of black tea, red berries and leather. Long lingering finish. I'd easily buy this again. — 9 months ago
