Nice value for the price point! Nose screams more herbaceous/brambly notes followed by a juicy, red berry-driven palate. The mouthfeel is very plush and full but tempered by some tangy acidity and sleek tannins. — 3 years ago

A very nice.summer syrah. On the nose: loads of red berry fruit, a touch of oak spice, cola, very bright and still very primary. On the palate: loads of cracked black pepper spice, hi-toned red fruit, juicy and weightless. Juicy on the finish, which shows just a touch of finely grained tannin. We tipped a glass while we discussed the next phase of our renovations.
This wine is rich, contemporary and tightly wound. Notes of strawberries and forest floor on the nose. Tannins are underripe, but well assembled. Nice notes of barrel toast and coffee on the mid-palate. Finishes with sweetness, tobacco, focus and precision. This is a cellar buy. — 7 years ago

Taking a cue from @Severn Goodwin I’m drinking some MO wine, which is made just a few hours from where I live. I had never had anything by Stone Hill prior to this, assuming it wasn’t very good, but I was wrong. This is a great light bodied red and was great with a slight chill. Black and blue fruits, forest floor, and a mineral streak combine with medium + acid and light tannins for an easy drinking, dry, fresh red. I bought a few of this producer’s wines and look forward to trying the others. A pleasant surprise! — 4 years ago

I picked this bottle up and put it down trying to decide if tonight was a special-enough occasion. In the end, glad I leaned this way. Perfectly mature, and better than.my past btl from a bit over a year ago. Helped to warm up a couple of degrees above cellar temp. On the nose: damp earth, floral perfume, touch of brown sugar, black raspberry, tea leaves, asian spice...a panoply of flavors. On the palate, lovely acidity, tart cherry, great density, hi-toned wild strawberry, mineral notes, sea salt..fantastic complexity. Tannin still showing grip on the finish, but this is perfect aged red burg for my palate. — 6 years ago

Purchased at winery: legit Priorato here with that schisty style, took forever to open, disintegrated cork, and I almost lost hope - eventually yielded stunning eclectic & complex nose of dusty minerals, cherry & blackberry compote, medicinal, spice, a hi-toned note, really evolving. Smooth rich luxurious on palate, great density & mouthfeel, tons of minerals & red & black fruit w/just enough acidity to balance it all out. Persistent finish. This isn’t their hi end bottling, and it isn’t Clos Mogador or anything like that, but this is absolutely Priorato with some more life ahead. — 4 years ago

Topaz with heavenly streamers stretching for perfection. Creamy head of structured perfection in terms of density and longevity. Perfect sheet of fog lacing falls like a slo-mo curtain to reveal layer two of mountain snows reflecting moonlight. Nose of bananas foster in all its blazing brandy and it’s caramelized olfactory topography; a malt image in sensory sepia to match the mountainscape. Nutmeg, cola and pecan dessert vies with baklava. The palate is a revelation in balance.
