Starting to fall in love with these Montepulciano reserves. This is a great one. Dark penetrating extracts of prune and dark tart cherry that unfold in your mouth like a 500 page book. Subtle, fine grained tannins carry the wine for a 3 minute lingering finish. Montepulciano wines are made from a special Sangiovese selection called Prugnolo gentile, a smaller berry with thinner skin than the larger berries from the Sangiovese grosso selection used in Brunello wines from Montalcino. Destiny flavor, needs a bit of an acquired taste , but once adapted they become addictive. — 4 years ago

See rating from October 2021. Same vintage and same tasting profile. Consistently great. — 5 years ago
Very fresh, with lots of salinity, a bit of stone fruit and a herbal whiff. Medium bodied and quite rounded but with zingy acidity and beautiful minerality. Highly drinkable and very nice, indeed. — 6 years ago
It’s incredible how much better this wine is getting with age. The nose is now reminiscent of blueberry pie along with notes of plums and blackberries. The wine is incredibly soft on the palate with just a touch of spice. Soft, smooth, juicy flavors of blackberries, blueberries and plums lead to gentile smoky notes and touches of spice with soft, round acidity. The finish is long and juicy with a lingering touch of spice. This is a spectacular accompaniment to beef enchiladas. — 9 years ago
90 plus cellars classic 2022 very good but again — 5 months ago
Vino nobile from Montepulciano is one of our most favorite Italian wines. Made from a strain of Sangiovese called Prugnolo gentile. It requires a bit of an acquired taste as it is super minerally, earthy with a very present iron ore/rust note. But when it all comes together in perfect harmony it is an experience. And so was this wine. — 2 years ago
Cuvée Grande Expression and again am impressive aged Corsican white. Nice medium yellow color with nose of melons and white floral slight oxidative notes and balanced palate. Great with Evan’s fried fish! — 4 years ago
Surely young, surely delicious !!
I consider the vernatsch, which we call in Italian Schiava gentile, our petit pinot noir.
This is an established label of an old vines version, a rare example of schiava that does age very well.
This is a wine somehow that if you blind taste it you could mistake for a white, absence of tannin and good freshness. With time it builds up a bit of flesh, but it does remains generally a grape to drink when young. Best examples are in the St. Magdalener denomination.
Still i enjoy this label everytime and also the other schiava Girlan produces.

Beautiful interesting Corsica wine — 6 years ago
Dark ruby with cherry and leather aromas. On the bud, it’s full bodied with a long finish. Dark fruit, leather, earth, and nice spice. Great with our Calabrese pizza! — 9 months ago

One more vernatsch/schiava gentile that i deeply enjoy
Simple, honest, that crisp cherry with a tiny bit of bittterness, smooth tannin, great freshness, mineral mood and a feminine body, very attractive, kind of exotic, but familiar...i can't explain
I am sure this bottle will benefit from a couple of years of rest, you can tell there is a texture that is going to flesh out, to become kind of chewy
I reckon this wine is a real bargain, but you need to like the typology — 4 years ago
Ruby red, dark fruits. Medium body. Crushable. — 4 years ago
Gentile and refined in color and flavor. A little watermelon, apricot and flowers from behind a wispy veil. A beautiful wine. — 6 years ago
