Wow. Lustrous amber hue. Melange of apricot, raw almond, orange blossom and orange oil, honey, damp leaves and spices. As it opens baked apples and apple pits emerge, followed by an expansive floral perfume. Bracing tannins on the finish and this is stunning now but still feels young(!), despite the years. 2006 Sine Qua Non "The Hoodoo Man" White Blend
39% Roussanne, 31% Viognier and 30% Chardonnay. 15.8% alcohol. “There ain’t a horse that can’t be rode, there ain’t a man that can’t be throw’d” Yet another of my Sine Qua Non guilty pleasures. Similar to the 2009 “The Thrill Of Stamp Collecting” and the 2011 “Patine,” this is one of those Sine Qua Non wines that I find to be a might more compelling than the expert reviews. I can’t quite put my finger on exactly why, but this one has always sort of tickled my fancy, and never fails to please. Ive always been rather fond of the perhaps Grant Wood, American Gothic inspired label. Now, some 12 years down the road, as with most of Manfred’s whites, the extra cellar time has just added nuance to this sexy effort. Lustrous, radiant gold in the stem, with a stunning bouquet of smoky, nutty peach cobbler with hints of white flowers lurking in the background. Tropical fruits and orange marmalade with a toasty, butterscotchy finish of substantial length. Absolutely wonderful acidity. Unctuous, oily texture that I treasure. Powerful and intense. Great balance. I like to taste great whites slightly warmer than cellar temperature, but I would say this one just got better and better with more air and as it warmed. Rich lustrous color and aromas of physalis, yellow tomatoes and lime. The wine has a rich rexture but good acidity a medium length and pleasing touch of dry compounds. Reoccuring aromas with sea salt and yellow plums. Very nice vintage. — 10 years ago

Wild ride here. Lustrous amber heavy skin contact character. Cider, orange blossom and jasmine topnotes with cinnamon, ginger, sarsaparilla, cardamom, walnuts, and curry emerging over time. So acetic it’s a little aggro but by god the precision and unfolding aromatic complexity is impressive; it is not microbial or dirty at all; and as it opens, a roundness and richness balances the VA. From an estate just a stone's throw across the river from highly esteemed vineyards of Châteauneuf du Pape. The winemaker, Rodolphe de Pins, is a UC Davis grad and one of the former winemakers from Vieux Telegraphe. This wine's pedigree and classic style shows through. Complex and layered with notes of cherry, blackberry, garrigue, and pepper. It continues to bloom with another layer of floral, pine needles, and cedar. Lingering tannins and vibrant acidity polish the lustrous finish. The 2010 vintage was exceptional for the Southern Rhone, this wine included. — 12 years ago
