Les Portes De Lussac

Château de Lussac

Lussac-St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Blend of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). Deep ruby color with purple highlights. Aromas of both red and black fruit, tobacco and violets. Flavors of red and black currant, blackberry and plum fruit, graphite and dark chocolate. Long and lingering finish. Medium-plus body. Excellent balance and structure. Quite bold and expressive, but very elegant as well. Soft tannins and velvety texture. Outstanding quality for the price. — 2 months ago

Château La Rose Perrière

Lussac-St. Émilion Merlot Blend 2019

Clay and juicy cassis. Black olive. Tannins taste like an old varnished bureau. This is the wine that made me love wine again — especially French wine — and motivated me to start systematically tasting and making notes. Then of course my liquor store stopped carrying it. I was delighted to find a bottle while traveling. Still a wonderful value and delicious, though age would improve it. 92 or … 93! — 7 months ago

Les Portes de Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux Blend 2023

This wine is inky dark in the glass. The nose is fairly beautiful, with a large whiff of black fruit like blackberry, blueberry, and currant dominating over the sniff of smoke and the note of graphite. The same sort of fruit is forward on the palate, and the tannic grip is enough, but not too much. It is a satisfying Bordeaux, and it worked well in my beef stew. — 5 months ago

Château La Perriere

Lussac-St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Nice dark color.

NOSE: dense cassis, blackberry, a bit of chalky minerals, a little cedar and spice, also some graphite. Restrained, but yum.

TASTE: too young, but good. Cassis, minerals, raspberry leaf, tannins remind me of bitter olives. A little lighter than I expected, but really quite good. Would love to try again in a few years. 92.
