Leognan

Château Pape Clément

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

A complex and evolving red blend from Pessac-Leognan, yet approachable. Plenty of red fruits, multi-layered on the secondary aromas, great mouthfeel, medium plus tannins, dry to mid-range of the palate. Finish is under 7-10 seconds. Nice structure, well-balanced between wood and dry leaves. Alone or with food pairing does the job. — a month ago

Château Haut-Bailly

Haut-Bailly II Pessac-Leognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Pomegranate, cassis, bitter/unsweetened chocolate, forest floor, graphite, ash (but not smoke), dried strawberry, clay dust — there’s a little blueberry in there too. Elegant and subtle with many flavors I can’t pinpoint. Could age a long while. Wine with a capital “W.” 94…others with better palates would probably go higher. — 7 months ago

Domaine de Chevalier

Pessac Leognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

2009 vintage. A blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. This estate has an impressive track record of high quality, even before it was bought by the Bernard family. Olivier Bernard managed to considerably expand the vineyards without compromising the quality of the wine, which is one my favourites. Unfortunately they use 100% Diam corks these days, which sadly stopped me from buying the wines. Anyway, this deeply coloured 2009 is a beauty that starts to shine with only 5 minutes in the glass. Impressive aromatics of black fruit, cedar wood, dark chocolate, vanilla, subtle spices and delicate floral hints. In the mouth it is extremely elegant and effortless, with everything in the right place. Exquisite balance with layered, perfectly ripe ( but not jammy) black fruit, embedded in a solid ripe tannic structure, and a very, very long finish. Everything falls into place, nothing is overdone, absolutely impressive, even if I believe it hasn't even reached its peak yet. This should age effortlessly for decades. Ab. 13,5%. — 2 months ago

I intend to always mention if there is a DIAM cork used in the bottle

Château La Garde

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Impressive Pessac Leognan. Smooth tannins, slight smokey aromas, and smooth deep berry flavors. It’s a food wine, like with a nice fillet. — 6 months ago

Château Tour Leognan

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Very tannic, high acidity. A plum and a lot of earthy notes, with leather and vanilla maybe. Very good, but maybe too young. — 2 months ago

Chateau Latour-Martillac

Pessac-Leognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Pretty deep . Quite earthy , blueberry , blackcurrant , spicy cassis . Good volume , sweet fruit , cassis , spicy blueberry . Ok acidity , quite grippy but ripe tannins . Ok length . Still quite young, will benefit for more time in the cellar . From now and over the next 10 years or so . A good example from this chateau. — 3 months ago

Château de Fieuzal

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Vintage 2014 | This Pessac Leognan delivers. Ten years old the colour is brownish. In smell lovely complexity: spices, liquorice, flint, warmth. Impressions of plums and tobacco. Surprising velvety taste, clearly a point! | paired with Cantonese beef and mango. — 3 months ago
