Typical nose of an Art Series Chardonnay with that dried pear character. On the medium weight palate a nice combination of ripe grapefruit and under ripe yellow peach. Medium minus acid. One can’t help but love this Chardonnay. A wonderful terroir, the Gin Gin clone, great winemaking, and an excellent vintage - ticks all the boxes. At its peak but enough acid for a few more years if you wish. That was my last bottle of the 2011. — 2 months ago
2021 release at Penfolds tasting. A big and structured wine but with beautiful detail, complexity, and length. There is flint, smoke, rounded sweet lemon, caramel, and wet stone. Built to age but fabulous now. More structured than Kumeu or Leeuwin Art Series, but at Burg 1er cru price point, not great p/q for new world chard. — a year ago
My last bottle of 2015 Woodlands Chloe. Quite restrained - very well made. Everything in balance at 9 years of age. Last bottle we had was in early 2023 - matched with the 2015 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay and some tasters preferred the 2015 Chloe. White peach. Not too lean, not too full bodied - perfect balance - a “goldilocks” Margaret River Chardonnay. Woodlands is better known for its stellar Cabernet and Cabernet blends but also makes this fine Chardonnay. — 9 days ago
Quite lemony, grapefruit, citrus, mineral. Nose is modern Australian Chardonnay with struck match and flint. Palate showing grapefruit, citrus and mineral and quite lean compared to other Margaret River Chardonnay icons like Leeuwin Art Series and Pierro. Minimal oak influence. Could cellar for a few more years. — 10 months ago
Pale gold, a beautiful nose of red apple there is salinity and mineralogy on the palate. Lots of of fruit including watermelon, nectarines and more apple. A beautiful wine with a long life ahead of it! — a month ago
Pale straw . Lemon and lime with some petrol hints ,green herbs , white flower notes as well . Light bodied with high acidity , green apple , lime and grapefruit . Very fresh , high acidity , leaves the palate very fresh , lively . Touch of fresh green herbs on the ok length finish . Would prefer to leave this 2 or 3 years , just to fill out a little more in the bottle and will last well a further 10 or so . — 5 months ago
Funky, very sulphidic and smoky - very struck match …. but it works with nectarine notes. As I said in the previous note, Is this the best Chardonnay in Australia? Becoming hard to get when I bought a few bottles of the latest vintage a week ago. Like a quality Premier or Grand Cru white Burgundy. A medium bodied palate but the palate intensity is profound - off the charts. Soon I will have a blind tasting of 2015 Chardonnays with friends and include some Burgundies with wines like this, Leeuwin Estate, Heytesbury and Yattarna. — 6 months ago
