medium body, floral (rose/violet) character, plus bitter orange peel, iron minerality — 15 days ago
Excellent! Fruity and lovely! Good acidity. — 16 days ago
Bert’s June wine tasting - this has a nice flavor - unpacked and it’s a blend. The vineyard was Luigi Baidana and he sold his vineyard to this vineyard who makes borolo and makes wine the way he did rather than selling to rich folks who just wanted his property. — 2 months ago

Bright Ruby red color with aromas of red berry fruits, sweet spice, tea and floral notes. On the palate flavors of cherry and blackberry with spice, licorice and floral notes. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, floral spice and slight earthy mineral character. Good value! — 4 months ago
2024. Sottimano is not entirely happy with his harvest so he declassifies his Barbaresco Cru to this ‘humble’ Langhe Nebbiolo. The same 5 Cru vineyards, same approach as for his top wines, just less barrel aging.
Translucent, bright ruby red.
An enticing nose full of sweet flowers, rose petals, red fruit, a touch of tangerine peel, mint, anise. Fresh, complex and very inviting.
Medium bodied on the palate, with great freshness and purity. Fine tannins, juicy acidity, bright, lively, with nice tension and good depth. Complex and quite elegant, youthful & joyful right now but will mellow with age and gain some seriousness.
Doesn’t have the weight of a Cru Barbaresco, but certainly the precision, depth & purity.

May be my favorite Italian from KL so far. Balanced between fruit and acid, medium bodied, just a lovely wine. — 17 days ago
slight fizz and bright bright nebbi fruit. love it on the more chilled side — 3 months ago
Deep Ruby with a slightly tawny rim. This would’ve been red fruited with raspberries in its youth but much more savoury at 25 years of age with just a trace of dried raspberry. A slight tarry note on the back palate which is totally balanced and a class act. With more air there were aromatics of a little pipe tobacco, leather and even boot polish Barb thought. Fine yet firm tannins. A privilege to drink this famous wine from a good vintage. — 17 days ago
Very Deep Ruby color with a bouquet of fruit, earthy herbs, tobacco, spice and floral notes. On the palate flavors of black cherry and raspberry with notes of herb pepper, floral, clove and earthy notes. Long finish, good balance with fine tannins ending with cacao, tobacco, fruit, spice and earthy nutty notes. Organic! — 2 months ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2023 pours a bright garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of raspberries, pomegranate, rose bushes in bloom, licorice, gravelly earth and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This was a perfect red for duck confit outside on a warm day. Drink now through 2033. — 3 months ago

Sperss is arguably Gaja’s most famous wine from Barolo. All of the fruit comes from Serralunga d’Alba, predominately the Marenca MGA with a little bit of Rivette. The 1996 Sperss was somewhat controversial as it became the first vintage (in a string of 17 vintages) that Gaja decided to blend in a small amount of co-fermented Barbera. This move required them to label the wine “Langhe Nebbiolo” instead of Barolo.
Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service, enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 1996 pours a deep garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with faint staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing (still!) with notes of Morello cherry, tar, truffle, licorice, dried flowers, gravelly earth and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long. This came across remarkably young. Drink now with patience through 2066. — 11 hours ago
