Baron De Escal

Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2013

Purchased at Aldi 1/19 and consumed 1/19. Not bad. Needed to breathe a little for me. The notes on the back of the bottle R; we owe her is the most prestigious wine region in Spain, famous for its excellent wines. This award winning dry red wine, aged in oak for 36 months, features aromas of fresh cherries and strawberries with hints of vanilla, tobacco, and licorice. Pair with grilled red meat, roasted lamb, beef stew, and hard cheeses. Best one served at room temperature. — 7 years ago

Garden Creek

Chardonnay 2013

No one really knows who left this one on the table, but it had some really stiff competition. This one wins the award for the most intriguing and the "betcha would have never guessed this to be a chard" chard. Very light lemongrass nose. Definitely sweeter nose, but didn't scream chard to me. The entry is light, no butter, little minerality, mostly lemon and lime. Very enjoyable. This Alexander Valley chard would have gone the best alongside a swimming pool and 105 degree Texas heat. Finished with crisp notes. Very pleased with this wine, but again I am 1000% certain that it would have taken someone from Garden Creek to have recognized this wine in the lineup of chards that we had tonight. — 8 years ago

Super unique. I thought it was a SB at first! So tropical with racing acidity. Kiwi, melon and even grapefruit. Not familiar with this winery or their style, but a fun one to try.

Okunomatsu Sake Brewery

Ginjo Sake

Okunomatsu kura was founded in Fukushima in 1716 and is now led by its 19th president Joji Yusa. This sake won the International Wine Challenge (IWC) Gold medal award in 2018 beating out 1,639 other sake labels.
Lychee, orange blossom and white flowers on the nose.
Bright, silky and a bit viscous with honey dew melon, white chocolate and minerality.
Ya ya karakuchi describes a sake as a nice balance between acidity and sweetness. We had soba with duck, shiitake mushrooms and grilled leeks.

The label says “hops, hops and more hops” I say yes to the hops but with a smooth blending of malts. Crisp, clean, intense aroma with a well balanced long satisfying taste this award winning IPA is the brewmaster’s choice. I say it’s just damn good. I believe that it is available on the USA Pacific coast. 6.5 % alc./vol. 80 IBU Cheers 🍻🇨🇦 — 8 years ago

Served blind by me at Sue Bell’s dinner party with Bruce Redman. After being tricked by Sue all week with blind tastings at the winery I was determined to get square. She was up to the task getting just the state wrong. Once I said Adelaide Hills she knew it was a Gruner. Hahndorf Hill are acknowledged as the best producers of Gruner in Australia. Taking its lead from the GV’s of Austria’s Kamptal region. Grapefruit, Citrus and stone fruit. A multi award winner on the Australian Show circuit.
