Junmai Ginjo Japanese Sake 2003

It’s at best ok. I got lazy and did not switch ChatGPT models and it told me the name of this sake was a different bottle. I was pretty sure I knew better but doubted myself instead of the AI. That’s what happens when you trust these things. After the bottle came I said whatever and kept it - it was as expected. Dry, on the sharp/bitter side and thin. Not terrible but certainly not amazing or one I would bother having again on purpose. ChatGPT when corrected said oh sorry, here is the correct mapping of bottles… great. Side note - it was reasonably fresh at March 2025 so somehow they get these relatively quick. Listening to British bands post London. The Squeeze. — 2 months ago

This green can, made from the newest/youngest rice of the season and dated with a manufacturing date of Nov '21 is delicious. It offers a subtle aroma and similar sweet entry as the gold can version but much better of the alcohol so it doesn't have a burning hot finish. Good with some steamed edamame as a pre dinner warm up. — 3 years ago

Funaguchi Nama Gensbu Japanese Sake

This was all part of our Sake Day 2025 experience. We only tasted 60ish sakes out of an estimated 450, so a small fraction of what was available. While I attempted to rinse the glass with water and stay hydrated it’s difficult to fairly rate in this environment and I use it solely as a time to try a wide variety and interact with the brands. People say best value for the buck but my son called it. For $7/can a beer might be the right call. — 2 months ago

Kikusui Kuramitsu Junmai Daiginjo 2024

I describe sakes of this type “like water”. It has a pleasant mouth feel, a slight sweetness to it, a finish that is there and then disappears in an instant. It’s there if you think about it but this has a weightless to it and clean, purity about it that makes you appreciate it more than one that is bold and brash. Great with the uni and served in a large wine glass, it was the favorite of the night. That said if this wasn’t towards the end and you had it first, I think you would miss its beauty. 2024-03-29 vintage so almost exactly a year old. — 7 months ago

Strong and very tasty. Not really suited for food pairing because of full flavor. Fruity and floral — 4 years ago

Perfect Snow Unfiltered Sake

Kikusui Perfect Snow - this is a heavy, thick sake with a stronger than expected alcohol bite. I should have known this from the name but for some reason was thinking it would be like Hakkaisan Snow-aged sake. Clearly not. — 5 months ago
