Single Vineyard Series Big Break Vineyard Small Berry Mourvedre 2019

Second bottle out of 3 of this fascinating, delicious #mourvedre from a deep-rooted, renowned family producer in #sonomacounty. This wine is interesting when it opens up, big eucalyptus, menthol up nose, layered black/purple fruit, dark coffee, nice acidity and some fine grippy tannins. Paired well with an Indian-topped pizza with that bold eucalyptus fruit and acid standing up well to the spicy flavors. #contracostacounty #bigbreakvineyard — 2 months ago

Penfolds

St. Henri Shiraz 2005

A Collection of great Australian Reds - Christmas break up of the Tennis Group. This was the wine I brought. I forgot to say all these wines were tasted blind. Only the owner of the wine knew the identity. This was a standout thanks to the vintage with a long life ahead of it. HH has a drinking window through to 2040. As well as the savoury liquorice accents like the 2007, this had plenty of red and black fruits. That was my 3rd of 6 - 3 to go. Next in a couple of years if I have the willpower. — 2 years ago

2008 was a warm year in South Australia and I see varying drinking windows. The Rewards of Patience says 2021 to 2045. Harvey Steiman said 2015 to 2025. Looks like a drink or Hold.

Similar to previous notes, but seems to be in a weird spot right now. Tried to break out was very restrained. — 4 years ago

Big Break Vineyard Zinfandel 2016

Poured into a decanter roughly an hour prior to service and presented double-blind. The 2016 “Big Break” presents a bright ruby with a deep but transparent core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and no obvious signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart, ripe and dried red fruits: cherries, Craisins, red flowers, leather, dried earth and light baking spice. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, though the fruit comes across a lot more ripe. The finish is medium+ and the alcohol is high. I called 2020 Cote du Rhône (Southern), Grenache heavy GSM blend. What a pleasant surprise! I used to drink the smack out of various Cline Zinfandel’s and Big Break was always amongst their better, if not a little more difficult to find. Drinking well now and will continue to do so through 2031, easy. — 5 months ago

Ark Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Day 10 of covid isolation and finally a negative test. Yeah!.....had to break out something nice to celebrate. Prior notes mostly apply. This is a beauty of a wine worthy of any celebration. Cheers! — 3 years ago

Serralunga d'Alba Barolo Nebbiolo 2015

A very nice Barolo that didn’t break the bank. Paired well with grilled meats and fire-roasted vegetables while dining out. Bing cherry notes with a slight minerality on the mid-palate. — 3 years ago

First day to break out the summer wines!! Classic Ribolla Gialla! Cloudy orange color. Big nose filled with citrus and tangerines with a hint of honey and oak. Same on the palate and very vibrant. Shortish finish. — 3 years ago

Au Bon Climat

Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2018

My Sunday night wine I have gone back to a favorite of mine that is not going to break the bank and is consistently good. I have opened the Jim Clendenon 2018 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Santa Barbara County.

On the nose there is raspberry, cranberry, cherry, spice vanilla anise, clove and earthiness.

On the palate I detect good red fruit, raspberry, cherry, cranberry, red currant, anise, clove and earthiness.

The wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity and medium fine tannins that leads into a long fresh red fruit finish. Another well blended wine from Jim Clendenon that i have come to expect. I hope everyone's weekend was a good one and we are all still safe and healthy. Have a great week, Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷
