Fontodi is located in the heart of Chianti Classico. One of Italy's elite red grape varieties, Sangiovese has the perfect mix of bright red fruit and earthiness found in the best red wines of Tuscany. This dry smooth velvety wine with hints of green olives mixed with black cherry delivers plenty of character. Great finish with a delicious tannin bite. An excellent wine for drinking today and setting several cases aside for future enjoyment. — 5 years ago

2016 vintage from the great Antinori winemakers for nearly half a millennium...one of Italy's most storied. Tuscan entry level, excellent everyday wine...good with much of everything. Medium bodied, Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Syrah or Cab...balanced, light tannins, flavorful palate, lingering finish - great value. Vintage rated 90 by top wine enthusiasts. Berry nose w/florals, better after open or decanted for a hour. A standard... — 7 years ago

"Italy's ultimate game-changer"
The mouth and nose are magical; Smoke, tobacco, tart cherry and blackberry with a silky light and long finish.

According to the winery, Pelaverga is a rare, indigenous variety, found in the village of Verduno in Italy's Piedmont. As it opens, with a sort of mounting energy in the glass, a melange of white pepper and flowers followed by brambly fruit—in this case it's the spice and floral character that dominates. The nose is far different from the mouth, which is rather more dainty than expected, with all of the poise of a cold climate Pinot Noir. That spicy character reemerges at the close, intensifying with each passing moment. 13.5% ABV — 10 years ago
Barbera d'asti - so much big fruit primary character it really is the antitheses of it's nebbiolo neighbors, or the rest of Italy's wines for that matter!
This one is a pleasure to drink on any occasion — 4 years ago
The wine delivers aromas of ripe red fruits like black cherry and raspberries. It has strong notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and other smoked aromas. In the palate you can feel the tart red fruit flavors mixed with vegetal notes of green pepper and other herbal flavors.
It is one of Central Italy's most tannic wines. A ver interesting and recommended bottle! 🍷
About the producer: "Azienda Agraria Scacciadiavoli is an estate in Umbria situated in the wine producing region of Montefalco. It has been owned by the Pambuffetti family since 1954.
The name "Scacciadiavoli" stems from the words "scacciare", meaning to banish, and "diavoli", the Italian word for devils. This unusual name can be traced back to an 18th century exorcism of a woman, whereby she was given red wines as a means of expelling the demon from her body."
Cheers to Italy! 🍷

Italy's version of oyster bay Sauvignon Blanc - crowd pleaser! When in Ischia... — 9 years ago
Many have said to be weary of bottle variation, but this was incredible last night. Tasted with the importer here in Australia - Michael at Quelvino. Previously Coravin-ed bottle, so maybe why it didn't have the spritz everyone talks about.
So inky and meaty. The palate screams sour cherries with an array of spices and herbs. There's a richness imparted by some RS too, I feel. What stumped me the most was the finish - started of big and tannic, then evovles into this subtle drive that goes on and on. I'm guessing this is still too young, with such heavy fruit. Can't wait to try more of this.
Note: The cuvee came with analysis values, which showed good TA and pH for a red. Alcohol was in the low 13's and it was surprisingly dry (0.8 g/l if I recall) - could be fruit sweetness that I was tasting. The spritz mentioned is a common feature of the wines because they finish fermentation in bottle. The grapes used are mainly Croatina, Uva Rara, and Vespolina (also known as Oltrepò ughetta). Apparently, Italy's favorite pizza wine. I didn't have it with pizza but I still enjoyed it. — 9 years ago
denavolinos bigger brother - same cuvée but older and higher vineyards, far more tannins and complexity.
hands down one of italy's best orange wines! — 10 years ago
Created in 1981, Terre Alte is considered one of Italy's most prestigious white wines, blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon grapes, estate-grown at Rosazzo in the historic Terre Alte vineyards. Pale lemon yellow color with aromas of stone and tropical fruits and wonderful floral notes. On the palate flavors of apple, peach and slight lemon citrus with honey floral notes and lively acidity. Smooth finish ending with fruit and sweet mineral notes. Very nice! — 2 years ago
Bought at Provisions on Van Horne, 42$, restaurant price, but they gotta survive the pandemic! Bright and delicious, had it with maple mustard drumsticks and The Third Man.
Plonk: “This classically styled, certified organic and biodynamic Barbera hails from the region of Alba in Italy's Piemonte. Leading with dusty tannins and mouth-watering acidity, this bottling opens up into a savory palate filled with alluring notes of leather, bittersweet chocolate, red cherry and red currant flavors.
