Everything I want in Grenache, everything I wish Pinot had. Garnet, limpid, crushed strawberry, grilled blood orange, white pepper, crushed herbs, wet leaves, stones, potpourri, dried rose petal, juniper, dried strawberry, oolong tea, fern forest, candy cap mushrooms, dry aged beef, and cinnamon. Lithe, graceful, driven by a focused acidity and strong mineral core. The stones and herbs are profound yet subdued by the purity of the red berry fruit. Incredibly detailed and an absolute match from nose to palate, clear and pure. Tannins are brisk and textural. Enjoyed over several hours for 35th bday. — 5 years ago

Amazing Wine ! This is a gorgeous wine . The color is golden yellow . The nose is full of rich , ripe apricots and peaches with a whiff of wild honey and toasted hazel nuts . The wine drinks very much as is on the nose , but with a zest of salinity . This a fruit forward wine that with excellent minerality ! It borders on excellence with this kind of elegance , power and depth . Most surprising is it’s complexity . This makes it extremely unique . Albeit a big wine , the drinkability is very good . I would suggest that it pairs just as beautifully with lobster and crab as it does with a prime , double cut , grilled pork chop ! At $35 -$40 dollars this wine is most definitely a steal . The QPR ( Quality to Price Ratio ) Makes this one of the biggest steals in the wine world today . I love it ! — 7 years ago

Really impressive on opening. Tastes like a Pinot noir should. Cherries, rose, a bit of fern like hiking in CA redwood grove, there’s some strawberry, some dust, plum skin. Interestingly the aftertaste, maybe 20 seconds later suddenly has a sweetness to it that I really enjoy. Drinking really well now on opening. Grateful to try this. — 2 years ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. Although this is Godello from Bierzo, this was meant to be a fun counter example to Sketch which is arguably a bit unique when it comes to Raul Pérez’s typical style. The 2020 “La Claudina” pours a deeper straw color with notes of lemons, grapefruit, Brazil nuts, hazel nuts (yeah, it’s definitely more in the oxidative style) and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and saline with a slightly sherried, creamy texture. Charming stuff and definitely something I would like to track over time. Enjoy now through 2035. — 2 years ago

The 2019 Mev. Kirsten, which is pure Stellenbosch Chenin, is taut and precise on the nose, displaying a similar marine influence as the Kokerboom, plus touches of fern and lanolin. The saline, slightly nutty palate is supremely well balanced with a killer line of acidity and touches of sour lemon on the aftertaste. This deserves 4–5 years in bottle, as it has huge potential.
