Gold Ridge Green Valley Pinot Noir 2017

Three clones from 4 Goldridge soil sites, Clone 828 & 13 plus Pommard 5. Medium Ruby color with aromas of dark berry fruits with notes of herbs and spices. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum and cherry with espresso, vanilla and herb spice, well balanced with acidity. Fine tannins on a long finish ending with cedar, spice and earthy character. Very nice! Very small production. — 2 months ago

2014 vintage. Biodynamically farmed Maboroshi vineyard in Sebastopol Hills, the Southern part of the Russian River Valley AVA. Goldridge soils. Beautiful nose with red berries, griottes, violets, subtle spices and a hint of strawberry jam. LaRue Wines

Rice-Spivak Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

The six acre Rice-Spivak Vineyard Pinot Noir is located south of the town of Sebastopol. Vines are set on Goldridge sandy loam along with volcanic ash. This starts off with bright aromas of rose petal with blood orange rind, smoke, red cherry preserves and guava puree. The aromatic range is simply gorgeous here. On the palate, the wine reveals a silky mouthfeel and wonderful minerality. With gobs of mouth-watering acidity, red and dark fruits mingle with spicy undertones. Highly complex and downright delicious, this will cellar well for a decade or more. 2020 vintage. That Dehlinger style...big and bold, yet retaining a handful of subtleties if you sift through the initial assault. Feel free to age this for a decade+. Well-composed. Medium/medium-heavy body. 9.6.23. — 8 months ago

Migration (Duckhorn Vineyards)

Charles Heintz Vineyard Chardonnay 2012

The Migration label first appeared in 2001 as the second label of Goldeneye, both under the Duckhorn masthead, first focusing on Pinot Noir and later adding Chardonnay. Like Paraduxx to Duckhorn, it is no longer a second label, but a winery unto itself. In 2008 Migration, and by extension, Duckhorn, produced its first Chardonnay. In 2009 they produced their first Chardonnay from the legendary Charles Heintz Vineyard. The Charles Heintz Vineyard is located just outside of the town of Occidental where Charlie’s family has farmed the land for over 100 years. Two ridges in, and only about 8 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the vineyard is situated in the Green Valley of Russian River Valley AVA. Heintz has become one of the most famous Chardonnay sites in California, with notable producers including Ceritas, DuMol, Freeman, Flowers, L'Angevin, Kosta Browne, Littorai, Migration/Duckhorn, Moone-Tsai, Pierson Meyer, and Williams Selyem. With its classic Goldridge sandy loam soils, and located just above the fog line, the vineyard receives abundant sunshine and cool ocean breezes. Super mellow Chardonnay, with candied orchard fruit, honeysuckle, wet stone, and some secondary hazelnut, with just a flutter of mushroom in the background. — 7 years ago

Wow. Didn't know they worked with Heintz. One of my favorite small producers, Montagu Wines, has a Heintz chard coming out in a year or two. Their Durell vineyard and Ritchie vineyard (with the help of Russell Bevan on the Richie one) have been outstanding. Looking forward to trying Heintz.
