San Giorgio

Ugolforte Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2011

From our honeymoon to Italy. We had the first bottle upon returning and this one four years later on our anniversary. It had taken on an orange hue and a slight port wine aroma. After decanting an hour this wine sang. — 2 days ago

Langhe Nebbiolo

Paired this with bucatini all’Amatriciana. Cut through the pancetta like a warm knife through butter. Light and tart, but a robust vanilla cherry soda. — 3 months ago

Pelissero Pasquale

Bricco San Giuliano Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2015

Tight and firm. Plums, nuts and black licorice on both the nose and pallet. Spicy and quite long on the finish. More reminiscent to me of a Barolo based on the body and style. (Not a criticism). Well integrated with gripping tannins. Might need a bit more bottle age. Looking forward to trying this one again in a few years. Thanks for the recommendation, Petey! — 4 months ago

Fattoria La Massa

Giorgio Primo Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

Needed an hour+ to sort out but this was rich and velvety smooth Tuscan cab+merlot, dark red fruit, pencil lead, lavender. Iodine that I usually associate with Sangiovese and a touch of menthol. Still fresh, lively on the back end. Impressive. — 3 months ago

Long Now Langhe Nebbiolo Barbera Blend 2002

Killer Nebbiolo and Barbers. Not a lot of luck with Italian wines but this was very nice. Black currant, dried herbs with mineral backbone. — 8 months ago
