Estate-grown Nebbiolo from a Barolo cru, this is old-school Riserva showing tightly wound red fruit, dried rose, tar, and earthy autumn leaf notes with firm tannins. Need times. Lacking a bit of depth for a Riserva - could be a result of a weak vintage.

I usually like Barolo from La Morra but this was somewhat of a dud. Very surprising as 2016 was an excellent year. It was unidimensional from opening to a few hours later. Shy nose, dark cherry, licorice and more mineral than undergrowth on the palate, and the finish was the highlight with a long leathery finish where hints of spice finally appeared. Maybe an off bottle given the ratings?
Different bottle a couple years later in September 2025 - much better - the prior bottle must have bern a bad bottle. This bottle has all the smoothness spice earth and cherry- based complexity that reflects the excellent 2016 vintage. Still a bit of grippy tannins at the finish. Very happy with this bottle. — 2 years ago

Old school showing restraint and tradition. However, the fruit is a bit muted cherry and takes a backseat to earthy tones of forest floor, leather, and dried herbs. Tannins are firm yet balanced, and the finish carries a touch of tar and rose.
A solid entry level Barolo. — 3 months ago

HWT - Eric especially liked it, it was a rich and robust red that went well with food. $122 is pricy though — 2 months ago
