Gavi comes from small growing area in northwestern Italy located north of Genoa on steep slopes of Ligurian Apennines. White label is La Scolca’s everyday wine, an alternative to their “Black Label”. From Cortese di Gavi grape (younger vines), pale yellow with delicate aromas of stone & citrus fruits. Palate, with extended lees aging shows rich apple & lemon flavors, nutty notes, good mouthfeel. Crisper than ‘17, medium finish, vivid acidity ending with a mineral character. Nice! — 4 years ago
Good with provolone and Genoa salami, good by itself, smooth — 7 years ago
Extraordinary. There’s a subtle overlay of appley aromatics and flavors that are almost Mosel Riesling-like over the typical salted almond things found in great Pigato. Perfectly ripe, poised and long on the finish. Not bad for a little wine shop in Genoa 😂. #pigato #liguria #bisson — 8 years ago
The Biale tradition began in the 1930's when Pietro Biale, an immigrant from Genoa, began planting Zinfandel on his Napa farm in 1937. An amazing Zin! Dark red with aromas of ripe fruits, floral and spice. On the palate, juicy chery, strawberry and cinnamon spice flavors. Soft fine tannins, nice balance with lingering finish ending with mineral tones. — 9 years ago
Kids home all day...not really a day off. With genoa and whiskey cheddar.

A very nice Orvieto. Light & bright at first, nice finish, went well with rich cheeses and Genoa samlami. Makes me remember wild boar ragu — drank after left out of refrigerator for 1 hour. — 6 years ago

Simply perfect pairing with spaghetti and sardines. Light as a daisy, and awash with mustard seeds/pomegranate/sagebrush. Debatably not worth $18 but a darn sight less expensive than the airfare to Genoa. (The most interesting red wine I've tasted this year. 2016 vintage.) — 8 years ago
Red blend 57% Syrah, 29% Merlot, and 14% Sangiovese. Bold and delicious — 9 years ago
Incredible. Rich, full bodied, complex nose that's a drink in itself, velvety smooth tannins. Beautiful dark color. — 10 years ago
Deep Ruby with dark cherry, mushroom, and forest floor. Rich and Lucious on the bud. Great with our Genoa Salami and Spicy Soprosseta Pizza! — 2 years ago
It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon.
Deep purple in color with a wide reddish rim.
Fruity nose with blackberries, cooked cherries, milk chocolates, blueberries, cedar, earth, tobacco, light vanilla, licorice, spices, herbs and black pepper.
Full bodied, smooth and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cherries, wood, spices, earth, black tea, chocolates, tobacco, graphite, herbs, dark coffee and peppercorn.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.
This 4 year old Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, is drinking beautifully now. Still young, but already showing very nice complexity.
Good right out of the bottle, and better after 45 minutes of air time, when more complexity comes into play.
This delicious Cabernet will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.
Good by itself or with food. A good sipping wine, but will also pair nicely with a nice piece of steak.
Rich, yet elegant. Spicy, tangy and fruit forward.
I paired it with a Charcuterie board of meats and cheeses. Paired really nicely with the Romanian Genoa Salami.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from Coombsville were aged for 18 months in mostly French Oak barrels (43% new), with some American and Hungarian Oak.
14.7% alcohol by volume.
93 points.

Gavi comes from a small growing area in northwestern Italy located north of Genoa on the steep slopes of the Ligurian Apennines. Made from the Cortese di Gavi grape, straw yellow with delicate aromas of green and citrus fruits. On the palate apple, grapefruit and tropical fruits, some nutty notes, rich with flavor, nice mouthfeel. Crisp finish, lingering, ending with a flinty mineral character. Enjoy with a nice Bronzino! — 7 years ago
Pear, apple, peach on the nose. Body is medium minus. Acidity is medium minus. Apple, pear, unripened pineapple dominate the palate. The wine is young, vibrant, and has excellent citrus. Delicious with a bit of Genoa salami. — 8 years ago
I knew I was going to enjoy this immediately, but it took a 45 minute meander before it really got there. Modern, but maintains an authentic SuperTuscan style, if that can actually be a thing... suffice to say, I wouldn't call it international, but oak and ripe fruit make their presence known. Plush, dark fruit of a medium weight meets lively acidity, with a noticeable, but not imposing amount of tannin. The balance helps draw your focus to the secondary notes of Genoa and even Finocchiona, along with plenty of spices, and tertiary cedar and cocoa powder. — 9 years ago
I have to toot my own horn a little on the cork removal gymnastics I performed here. Magyver would have been proud. Big wet earth component, nose of Genoa salami and tobacco. A touch of spice and cherry. Plenty of fruit but tannins dominate. Still nice on day 2. — 10 years ago

Best Vermentino outside of Sardegna, excepting perhaps Lunae Nero at a steeper price. First tasted in Genoa about a decade ago. Never been disappointed since. — 3 months ago
