Life oh life ohhhh life — 4 years ago
This is showing beautifully right now, with a beguiling blend of orange peel, cassis, and anise aromas that carry over to the palate, where black cherries, balsamic notes, and a delicate mix of earthy autumnal spices provide a sensuous background. Soft mouthfeel with fine tannins that peek out a bit on the long finish, where the spiced citrus seems to last forever. Paired perfectly with pan-roasted wild mushrooms and dry-aged ribeye. — 5 months ago
Pale reddish in color with light intensity.
Light red fruits on the nose, and medium bodied with medium plus acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity.
Showing raspberries, cherries, spices, peppercorn, light wood, coffee, herbs and light vegetables.
Tangy finish with round tannins and tangy pomegranates.
This 5 year old Barolo is young and elegant. Showing nice balance with good structure.
Has enough acidity to last it for a while. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 7 years.
Easy drinking and better with food.

Impressive showing for this Monvigliero with cherry, strawberry, balsamic, savory spices, floral & tobacco notes — 8 months ago
Last had nearly two years ago, and this seems even more closed than then. Decanted 5 hours but didn’t really open all that much. Tons of cherry on the nose, which is nice. But the palate is quite unexpressive and the finish is overwrought with dusty tannins still. Another 5 years? — 10 months ago
I sold Barolos and Barbarescos from this winery with the first importer I worked for back in the early 80s. It’s been in the decanter about an hour, and though the lightish color shows maturity, some fruit is emerging g to join with the intense mahogany furniture/old library scents. Incense too, along with faded rose petals. Very classic. In the mouth, it’s powerful and somewhat austere. Not a fruity wine. Still a fair amount of tannin present. The austerity and power will pair nicely with the braised oxtails (coda alla vaccinara) that are almost ready. — a year ago

Great with beef stew. Cuts through fatty foods really well and brings a lovely smoothness out of the wine. On its own, it can lean towards vinegary, but I liked it either way tbh — 5 months ago
