Domaine Saint Jean Le Vieux

Wonderful wine! Nose of blueberry, spice, granite, lavender and blackberry. Very in your face but also refined and complex. Really great. Palate is big, ripe, mineral, granite driven and very very olivey. Green and dash of kalamate but finished with major granite. Nose is so elegant, lifted and bright. Fresh and deep with power and finesse and lovely purity. Really a great effort here. Big structure, sap and deep concentration. Ideally better in 5 years but can be drunk on the fruit. — 4 hours ago

Have not had since 2017! Knockout nose of mid season cherry fruit with lipstick like intensity. Superb spice and complexity. Really layered and wild but also restrained. Lovely earthy sous bois. It smells so authentic. Just an awesome nose. 9.4. Palate is awesome. Ripe and super juicy with awesome, sappy curly and wonderful freshness and purity. A knockout. Just terrific balance and such unreal fruit. Brilliant showing. Long and precise. This will open more. — 21 days ago

Wonderful showing. White pepper, granite, lavender, dark berries and earth. Loads of aroma presented gracefully. Some olive as well. Just lovely. Palate is ripe, generous and juicy but also super fresh, energetic and dynamic. Terrific acids in this. All the fruit is red and roaring. Lovely velvety tannins and a long finish suggests this can and will age for a while. Superb clarity here. Superb granite on the finish. Really long finish. — 15 days ago

Château Chantecaille Clauzel

Saint-Emilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

See previous note which was my longest ever Delectable note. This wine has such an interesting story. Virtually unknown and surrounded by Right Bank royalty like Evangile, La Dominique and Petrus. Mainly Merlot with a small % of Cabernet Franc. Dark fruits with blackberry and a touch of vanilla. Only medium weight with soft fine tannins. Quite detuned. Cost $45 and drinks to its price point unlike the expensive wines produced by the neighbours. This tiny 0.4 hectare block’s grapes would normally be absorbed by one of the neighbours and end up in a much more expensive Cuvée. The previous Delectable note is incorrectly called Chateau Vieux Chantecaille but the lengthy description refers to this same wine. — 25 days ago

Yes Peter. Having only 0.4 hectare there is no room for a winery so it is vinified elsewhere.
