Perrières Corton Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2016

The first of a bracket of 3 x Corton Rouge at the 2016 Grand Cru tasting. Ironically before the tasting a few of us were discussing how underwhelming Corton Rouge tends to be and that maybe they should plant the lot to Chardonnay. WELL! How wrong can you be. This was the best bracket of Corton Rouge in 4 years of attending these tastings. All tasted blind. The Meo had a lovely spicy nose of red fruits. Fresh - 10% whole bunch. The palate was of palate staining intensity and amazing length. All 3 in this bracket shared that. — 3 days ago

@Severn Goodwin No. The theme was 34 Grand Crus all from the 2016 vintage.

@Severn Goodwin The only Corton Charlemagne we had was made by Henri Boillot. See notes from a few days ago. It was excellent.

Aux Brulees Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2004

A fine effort for the vintage. I actually didn't think it was an 04' in our blind, as the greeness of the vintage only revealed itself when the bottle was nearly empty. Quite fragrant. Dark red fruits, Vosne spice, violet, rose, pine, and a slight vegetal edge with more air. The palate's quite dark and soft, backed by a savoury touch and mineralic drive. Silky texture and long finish. Powerful, yet elegant. Really enjoyed this wine. Not hitting in extreme heights, but balanced and a wine I would be delighted to drink again.

NB: 04 red burgs have been quite surprising lately. The vintage seems to be turning out quite alright.

@Severn Goodwin Lucky you! Haha. Wish I went into wine earlier. All that delicious burg at least half of what it is today. I'll stick to my riesling for now 😊... Though the price trend has too been less than favourable lately.

@Aaron Tan You're doing just fine, especially with that Chasselas the other night

(Frère & Soeurs) Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2017

Young, but oh so tasty. Brighter than west coast counterparts, nicely integrated new French oak... baking spices, lemon curd, almond notes, with a blood orange bite. Delish, and better with air. — 7 days ago

Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir 2003

Intense fruit that took about 15-20mins to really show up on the palate to match the initial nose. Darker red fruit, ripe berries and still drinking quite young with the tannins still present. Mesmerizing balance of power and elegance. — 2 months ago

Solid but the acidity took over a bit to start and it needed a bit of air for the fruit to show up. — 2 days ago
