Domaine Denis Carré

Georges Lignier et Fils

Clos des Ormes Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2021

Georges Lignier’s holdings in this jewel of a 1er Cru account for nearly half of the entire vineyard.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2021 “Clos des Ormes” pours a ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with beautiful notes of fresh forest berries: strawberry, raspberry, freshly cut red flowers, some finely ground black pepper, dried green herbs and a kiss of fine, warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. What a lovely, rustic expression of Burgundy! This is the most soulful Georges Lignier I’ve had so far. The 2021 vintage may have played a part (I’m a fan of these cooler, harder vintages). Whatever, this is awesome and killer with rabbit sausage and lentils. Drink now (and take your time with it) or enjoy through 2046.

Mommessin

Clos de Tart Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Medium ruby with a medium garnet rim . Touch more sweetness on the nose , with rose , ripe cherry , red plum , raspberry , blood orange and some slightly toasty notes . On the palate this is juicy and quite sweet fruit profiled with raspberry, strawberry, quite fruit dominated . Rounded but noticeable tannins , fresh vibrant acidity and decent length . This is quite young, certainly compared to the Malconsorts , pretty sweet fruit , but overall well balanced and probably just needs a little more time . Quite a lot appears to be hidden at the moment , comes across a little one dimensional, but I think it will get there . Come back in 5-8 years, should drink well a further 10, if not more. — a month ago

Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2005

2005 vintage.
Rich black cherries, cocoa spice, orange peel, dark flowers, subois and earthy.
Long generous finish with crisp acidity and fine grained tannins.
This was bequeathed to me years ago at a Celebration of Life for a gentleman who was greatly influential and guiding on my wine journey.
A stunning wine from an incredible individual.
Cheers everyone.

Special moments, Jamie. I once got a Gloria 1959 from a wine reseller who liked my youthful enthusiasm. The birthyear of my wife, we drank it with the birth of our first child. 🫶

Domaine Hubert Lignier

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2001

Hubert Lignier's Clos de la Roche 2001 is an elegant beast—powerful in structure, layered and unfolding progressively, with fleshy texture, dark fruit, and black pepper intertwining. It's a very 'un-Roche' Roche. I've had AR's Roche and Dujac's Roche before, but neither had this kind of sheer power.

The 2014 DRC Richebourg exceeded expectations. I wasn't a big fan of the 2014 vintage before—it's a weaker year after all. But this one only started to open up after three hours of decanting, from 5 PM to 8 PM. I poured it three times over the evening, and each glass showed a different evolution:

· First glass: hawthorn and sour plum soup.
· Second glass: elegant rose perfume began to emerge, along with white pepper spice.
· Third glass: fully opened—red fruit, floral notes, and licorice intertwined, with a slender, lean, elegant frame—charming and refined, never cloying.

What a joyful evening. Both bottles were absolutely delightful!

One meter from Clos de Roche. This is gorgeous with stunning, perfectly ripe berries, hint of red licorice/cola, caramel, soft, dry herbs, balance and gorgeous length for days. Hard not to drink now. — 6 months ago
