Have a few more of these squirreled away, but opened for an old friend who used to buy a ton of Hewitson wines from me — this was nearly flawless, just a stunning presentation, best it’s shown — ever. — a month ago

The Mother Vine Single Vineyard Shiraz 2012

BlackBerry and bitter cherry, very well balanced. Great with steak and smoked Gouda.

Domaine de la Noblaie

Chinon Cabernet Franc 2016

Yummy hay/mud aroma in the glass, tastes like a dry pinot noir at first. Opens up to a barely ripe cherry over time. Served by the lovely Dean. — 6 years ago

Baby Bush Barossa Valley Mourvedre 2021

Chocolate strikes me first. Blackberries and blueberries, a little clove, nice finish. Tannins are in check. Very pleasant. — 2 months ago

Old Garden Vineyard Mourvedre 2013

Powerful wine that went well with my Georgian lamb. Too strong to drink alone. But perfect with steak or lamb. Powerful nose with strong brooding flavors. — 2 years ago

Private Cellar Falkenberg Vineyard Shiraz 2014

Personally brought it back from Australia. The very accommodating winery and their absolute wonderful staff accommodated a direct shipment to the city I was staying, free of charge. Deep dark tanniny liquid. Dark, dry layered fruit, with satisfying complexity and a finish that kept you wanting to drink more. A bit unbalanced kept it away from a higher score. — 7 years ago
