Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Pretty deep , narrow ruby rim. Quite rich , almost exotic nose , dark cassis , dark plum, rich spiced blackberry, touch of cocoa , vanilla, smoke. On the palate this is quite rich but also very elegant with balanced refreshing acidity . Cassis , mineral , grafite , dark cherry. Ripe but very present tannins . Long and refined finish . After a while becoming more mineral and quite serious . Needs time , better in 5-10 years and last well a further 10-15 . This is a very successful showing and though obviously very young is enjoyable and involving to drink at the moment. — 17 days ago

Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley

Les Fremiers Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

Oak and whole-bunch aromatics. Clearly lots of material packed into the wine, perhaps even opulent. Good density and tannins. Lovely salinity on palate. Still very young and admittedly not the easiest drink at the moment, but you can certainly see the potential. Possibly another decade before it hits its stride. — 2 years ago

From Coravin at my nephews restaurant at Sundays Italian lunch. A nice moment to check in for my bottles that I have in my cellar. Obviously way to young but drinking well nevertheless. Solid wine, potential 94-95 with some age but not the best vintage IMHO. — a month ago

Château Cantemerle

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Pretty healthy ruby /garnet core and a medium wide garnet rim . On the nose straight from the bottle shows well . Spicy blackcurrant, red plum, cranberry , cedar , touch of iodine and iron filings . Good roundness in the mouth, touch of red plum , blackberry, redcurrant, really good fruit still , slightly cedar, tobacco tinged finish . Nicely rounded ripe tannins , balanced acidity , good length . Drinking at peak at the moment , but can still go on quite a while I would imagine, another 5-10 years perhaps on the basis of this bottle . — 2 years ago

Stella di Campalto Podere San Giuseppe

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2016

"How many bottles do you have left?"

Now imagine the nagging I received when I told her that it’s the only bottle we got, and that the importers have since sold out. I guess I should have expected this when my wife was quick to claim that it smelled like the perfume I got her for Christmas the moment the cork was pulled - anybody familiar with Le Labo's Rose 31? I thought it may have been her perfume itself, but alas, she wore none during dinner. Gosh, it really does smell like decaying roses, wood-spice, and musk. Swirl the glass and I was instantly hit with high-toned cherries, tinged with liquorice. Oh, so ethereal on the palate, yet so intensely flavoured. Gorgeous red fruits, earthy nuances, silky texture, and a bright acidity that carries the pure and energetic finish. What a wine!

Not hard to see why my wife’s smitten with this wine - I clearly am too. Thankfully, while I’ve failed with stockpiling on the Rosso, I did secure some of Stella’s Brunello for the household. Now it’s just the arduous task of explaining to her that it’s all cut from the same cloth without popping open one too early.

@Peter van den Besselaar I did eventually open a bottle of Brunello 😂 perhaps for the “wrong” reason.

@Ceccherini Cristiano So good, and an absolute success on the drinkability front. Soldera somehow eludes me till this day. For a newcomer to draw comparisons with a legends of the regions, Stella’s definitely doing great things. Haha.

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2007

Finally had my a-ha moment with this wine (after opening a 16 too early). 07 was just beautiful - kept growing in stature over the 3 hour meal. Drank in Venice to celebrate our anniversary. — 7 months ago

Château Duhart Milon

Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot Blend 2005

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2005 Duhart-Milon is a bit of a beast. Displays quite a dense, unforgiving pencil lead and tobacco-scented nose, and the fruit seems to take a back seat at the moment. The palate is well-balanced but undeniably brawny and rough-hewn, the kind of Pauillac you wouldn't want to meet down a dark alley at midnight. This is a bit hard going at the moment. This was an ex-château bottle served at Maison François in London. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2023) — 2 years ago

Tablas Creek Vineyard

Le Complice Adelaida District Syrah Blend 2018

Nose of mushrooms and lavender. Palate is lush with plum and raisin. Good tannins worthy of food with balanced acid. Pepper bursts through after breathing which is refreshing for a syrah (some syrahs tend to only give pepper notes). Anti-CA syrah given how dry the wine drinks. — 3 years ago
