Belle Glos

Las Alturas Vineyard Pinot Noir

Medium ruby color. Aromas of cherry, cranberry, baking spices and hint of cedar/cigar box. Flavorful, cherry and cedar on the finish. Magnum bottle with MTG night. — 5 days ago

Enderle & Moll

Liaison Pinot Noir 2020

2020 is one of my favorite versions of Liaison. Mildly masculine, soft like wrinkle free satin sheets. Also pulpy and viscous with a roux-like foundation. It's a textural wine.

Smells like dried cedar dust and cherry and punchy acetone. Full of flavor. A blend of marooned macerated yogurt cup strawberries and cherry prune juice.

Isole e Olena

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2020

Really quite nice, and a perfect pairing with a Tuscan style bistecca. Have wanted to try Isole e Olena for a while but I think this was the first time. Dark cherry, some dusty restrained tannins, excellent acid of course. Another nice 2020 Chianti. — 22 days ago

Dunn Vineyards

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

Takes the reins as best ever Dunn Cabernet for me…needed 45 mins out of Magnum, nose all Bordeaux of cedar and cigar box with a touch of cassis. Velvety palate, layers of red cherry and chocolate espresso bean, long, long finish. Find and drink now if you can. — 2 months ago

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2010

Very interesting wine. Nice mix of earth tea and lingering mouthfeel with cherry and fruit. Nice drinking window now. This was muscular and bursting. — 22 days ago

Château de Beaucastel

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2021

Delectable Wine
9.2

Bottled in June 2023, the 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape ended up slightly below my initial assessment from barrel last year. Nonetheless, it presents a distinctively elegant and refreshing character that’s neatly defined by ripe black cherry, licorice, violet, strawberry and meaty traces. Round tannins neatly frame this savory and polished red that offers highly enjoyable drinking right out of the gate. (Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous, June 2024)

Viña Bosconia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2012

Very good Rioja. Classic in style. Red fruits, dried cherry, herbal and a little earthy. With mushroom and tomato pasta. Let’s see how it holds up on day 2. Honestly too hot and humid for this kind of meal, but it’s what I have on hand!

Day 2: Still great, but became a little pruney. I prefer the freshness on day 1.

Produttori del Barbaresco

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2018

It has been a little over a year since my last note on the 2018 vintage. Popped and poured, enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2018 pours a pale garnet with transparent core; medium+ viscosity and no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with delicate notes of funky cherry, rose water, tar and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. A touch thinner than some of the “bigger” vintages but no less charming. I’m sort of a sucker for the 2018 vintage in how enjoyable these are to drink in their youth. Drink now through 2038 — 12 days ago

Solid stuff in pretty much any vintage. Just ordered a six pack of 2019 on pre-arrival. Salute! 🍷

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1995

1995 vintage. Good fill. Excellent cork with minimal saturation. Decanted and throwing a tad extra sediment…a nice mix of chunky and powdery sed. Tasted after 30 minutes and 2 hours open and decanted. Light-medium body. Dark cherry and earth in the nose. These transferred over and slapped on a fudge chocolate note on the finish. In a good place now and not improving. Would seem to hold steady in this standing for another 3-4 years. 6.6.24. — 2 months ago
