Kosta Browne

One Sixteen Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2018

My first Kosta Browne chard! I like it! Opened it while cooking and it started with a nice lemon essence ... Over time it took on buttery notes with some toasted pear. Pairing just beautifully with my zucchini and pinenut pasta .... I may be deliriously happy, or my wine might taste like creme brûlée. — 6 years ago

This is a crisp and fresh Sonoma chard with just the right amount of fruit and so much character. We love this for a US Chardonnay. — 6 years ago

Not a Cali Chard fan normally but this is delish. Might be the leftover excitement from talking winemaking with Chuck Wagner yesterday but I loved this wine. Burgundian almost... — 8 years ago

Nice view. Never a slam dunk with his Chardonnay. Either it’s just slightly overdone/ heavy-handed or in your case delicious. Cheers.

@David L I can see what you mean about his Chards being heavy-handed and full-throttle; definitely not a style that would be a slam dunk with everyone, for sure.

Aubert

Eastside Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2013

This wine is right at the top of the hill and ready to kick some butt. Perfectly balanced, rounded edges, stoneground fruit nose and front. Much more minerality here, some butter but the "buttah score" is probably 2/10 on this wine. The middle is rather dense, rich, full. Slightly underripe mango. Finished with a nice stone ground minerality. What a perfectly weighted chard!! Best white wine of the night without question, although a 2012 Condrieu Viognier seemed like it was 'on deck' as I was leaving therefore this one could have outdone this one, but if it did, it couldn't have been a runaway difference. This one has 5-7 years additional, so the 2015-2023 drink window suggested by CT is rather solid and right on the money. — 8 years ago

Score here is potential driven. This is a baby! Quite opposite of Bevan’s Ritchie chard it was tasted against. Very mineral focused and wonderful acidity. Stone-fruits, lemon tart, touch of lemon cream, slate. This was gorgeously focused and has all the hallmarks of impeccable Aubert Chardonnay...if you can give it time!

I also opened the Aubert Eastside and agree with the comment. We chose to decant this wine which really opened it up. It was just delicious tonight.

Kistler

Kistler Vineyard Chardonnay 2008

I think that there is some bottle variation here. Last week I had the luck to try this wine, and two weeks in a row I had the chance to try this wine again. This bottle was not as 'elegant' as the last bottle. There was less fruit, less acidity, less oak......compared to a Kistler Chard Dutton of the same year, this one lost the battle IMO, although I think it was a 50/50 split for those who tried it. I think that I was expecting this one to be as roundedd as the bottle that we tried last week, and this one simply didn't hoild up the same way. Good notes, definitely more of a pineapple but really without that citrus bite. Overripe honeydew and mango are more the note here. Not as much minerality, not as 'dried' on the finish. Nice wine....wouldn't kick it out of bed for sure. But if you have some of these, it's time to start poppin' some corks! — 8 years ago

I’ve had the same bottle variation issue with the wine over many years.

I think I preferred this over the Dutton. I didn’t get to try this same bottle that was opened the other week so I’m not sure of the variation, but I thought this had nice acidity (more so than the Dutton). I do believe the Dutton had more fruit and more of the typical Cali chard notes of baked bread and bright fruit, I just happened to enjoy the acidity on this more. Splitting hairs!
