Nice one Light and not pretentious — 3 years ago
2012 vintage. Alexandre de Malet Roquefort (owner of Premier Grand Cru Classé La Gaffelière, Chapelle d'Aliénor Bordeaux Supérieur and co-owner of the tiny Pomerol estate La Connivence) bought this estate in 1999. In my experience his wines are very reliable and classic, elegant and never overextracted. This medium-bodied Saint-Emilion (90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) is a solid effort for the vintage (that generally fared much better for Merlot than Cabernet Sauvignon). Strawberry fruit and very subtle oak, freshness and balance. Drinking well now, but I feel there is more room for improvement. A nice wine nearing maturity. The only "problem" is that for the price (21,9 euro) you can buy the delicious 2015 second wine of La Gaffelière. — 3 years ago
Beautifully oak forward, if a little bit too much, especially once it opens up. Missing a bit of body but there's a nice spicy red fruit notes and strong hint of cherries. Quite a nice one for it's price. — 2 months ago
I usually am not such a great fan of MSG. I find the wines too harsh, too masculine. This is a great MSG, lighter, feminine, full of sumptuous red fruit, precise and delineated closer to a Vosne than a MSG with great balance. Enjoyable (a bit too much) but another 10 years in it. Above all still affordable which can’t be said of the other wines of this emerging (for me he has emerged) super star. Got enough of it to carry me for 10 years but afraid it is too good to forego. — 3 years ago

My Arnoux-Lachaux day. Had the 2017 Romanee St. Vivant at lunch. A 2018 Clos de Vougeot at 6 pm and this NSG at 10 pm. It holds its own with those two grand crus. All of these wines are full bodied but they display an incredible elegance. Red fruit and great salinity with a touch of acid to create great balance. For me Charles Lachaux has reached superstar status in 2018 with unfortunately prices to match. That is what makes this wine so great, it is still relatively affordable and scores almost as good as the two grand crus tasted earlier. — 3 years ago
