Château Sociando Mallet

Château Sociando-Mallet

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

2020 vintage. Big, darkly-fruited nose that rolls over to the flavors. Medium body. Great complexity for initial and mid-palates, Finish is where things drop off a cliff. Solid banger for the price. If only some of that impressive, frontal assault could be transferred to the back end, we'd be in clover. Nice, first-time BDX to get the palate rolling/draw people in tho. 3.15.24. — a month ago

Château Moulin De Mallet

Bordeaux Supérieur 2020

NOSE: cooked meat, tree bark, elderberry, tobacco.

TASTE: cassis, espresso, bitter wood. It’s simple Bordeaux without overt flaws. Could use age - but amazing deal for the $7 I paid. I think … barely 90.

Château Pontoise Cabarrus Cru Bourgeois 2018

Literally just a short hop west of Sociando Mallet, a great Bordeaux I’ve bought and cellared since the great 1982, this is an 85% CS/15% M Haut-Medoc that is quite fine, definitely shows a solid tannic backbone, lovely fruit, medium-long finish, I’d guess 7-10 years easily of further development, only troubling thing for me is the 14.5% ABV, but lovely wine nonetheless. — 2 years ago

Bodegas Emilio Moro

Malleolus de Sanchomartin Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2015

Founded by Emilio Moro, born in Pesquera de Duero Made. Wine made from grapes of vineyards, 25 & 75 years old, from Camino Viejo estate. Malleolus is a Latin word meaning “small hammer or mallet” used in planting & “majuelo” Spanish for “young vine” a traditional way of referring to a vineyard in Pesquera del Duero. Deep red subtle fruit aromas with espresso & smoky notes. Blackberry & cherry with vanilla spice on full lush tannins needing more time. Well balanced, complex, lingering with earthy finish. — 6 years ago

La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2017
