Château Rose Du Franc

Domaine Tempier

Bandol Rosé Blend 2022

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2022 pours a pale coral color with a transparent core; medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with a refreshing mix of tart and ripe red fruits; strawberry, watermelon dry underbrush, red flowers, and wet stone minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry; tannins are light with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and saline. Lovely texture. This continues to be a benchmark for rosé. Drink now through 2032. — 8 days ago

@Raun Kupiec both Pibarnon and Pradeaux make great Provencial rosé too. both LdH Tondonia Rosado and Chateau Musar Rosé are in the same category

I know the Musar Reds from the Bekaa Valley. Really excellent. Didn’t know they did a rosé, it if it is anything like their red it must be wonderful.

@Raun Kupiec it’s actually more close in resemblance to their Blanc but yes, lovely stuff.

Opus One

Overture Napa Valley Petit Verdot Blend

Quite deep ruby , pretty opaque . Quite deeply fruited and slightly spicy oak , dark blackberry , blackcurrant , with a grafite , wet slate touch. Quite a bit of grip on the palate with blackberry , spicy blackcurrant , dark cherry . More mineral and dense on the palate , quite good acidity, touch of sweet oak. Decent length with no warmth or sweetness from the alcohol. Quite serious , slightly austere perhaps but balanced and actually quite refreshing. Drink from now over the next 5-10 years . This would have been a recent release , purchased from the vineyard earlier this year. — 7 days ago

Possibly the last bottle of Rose this year. Lovely dark salmon color. Consistent wine throughout, see previous notes of other vintages. Probably a little past prime. — 5 days ago

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2016

Okay. Again the same dilemma. If a wine does not meet expectation is it basically bad (for me)? 🤔 because in life everything is relative, right? Any thoughts on puzzling matter??The wine was well balanced, dark red fruit flavors, polished, smooth tannins, good intensity and concentration, but limited length and lacking any meaningful complexity… Eight year old left bank Bordeaux. A fourth or fifth growth winery, maybe not, can’t remember for sure. Do remember what I paid though, $120. Definitely too much for what we experienced this evening…. as to our expectations. — 12 days ago

@Jan de Weerd from reviews not personal experience. Most let this wine age twenty plus years?

Yes, this is liquid luxury, on a pnp, young, and off vintage (fires). Can’t wait to try one with some years on it. — 8 days ago

I don’t think Ridge has off vintages

Right. Should have wrote “fires vintage.” I was explained the blind block selection process, and truly impressed.

Solaia Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2019

Second bottle from this vintage. Much better experience this time. Last wasn’t bad and perhaps was just an off night/bottle. This Solaia was packing significant range and depth. The fruit was beautifully structured and was so well rounded. Seemed more mature than just 5 years. Excellent. — 12 days ago

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Le Volte Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2021

Deep opaque purple. Vibrant smell of red berries and lavender. Full bodied but comes across as very ‘athletic’. Tannins and acidity are spot on and the wine leaves an impression of effortless presence and harmony. Impactful yet very refined. A tight rope walker, making it seem all so easy. Flirting with greatness yet so ephemeral. A wine that definitely leaves a vivid impression on your memory, like a painting. Bravo. 92+ (easily) — 13 days ago
