Château Haut-Bages Libéral

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a complex red Bordeaux from Pauliac.

Great, seductive, earthy nose and palate with black and blue fruits, wood, forest floor, tobacco leaf, spices, black tea and peppercorn.

Medium plus in finish with firm tannins and tangy cranberries.

This 5th growth still needs another 5 to 10 years of bottle time, as it is not peaking yet, but already gorgeous.

Needs 4 hours in a decanter to open up properly and show complexity. Tasty, interesting and approachable.

A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats, dried fruits and cheeses.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$100.

Better than I remembered. Beautiful color. Lemon, peach, and apricots. Let it breathe a bit before drinking. — 23 days ago

Seña

Sena Hillside Red Blend 2007

Well this was interesting. Tasting after eachother:
Lynch Bages 2009
Sena 2007
Chadwick 2007
In all honesty I hope the LB is just in a numb phase. It didnt do the trick yet. Still has a lot of acids whilst drinking. The nose however is great but taste wise it doesnt match.
Sena is as Sena can be. In your face! Plenty of everything: blackfruit, sweet, ripe, some wood, umami always. Very yummi.
Then the Chadwick that is close yo perfection. That is Sena but distinguished. Calm but present. Lush and you taste it for minutes.

Languedoc Red Blend 2015

Such a well balanced wine; tons of nuance and spice give it a bit more spice and complexity than a cotes du Rhône. Spicy finish lasts minutes — a month ago

Nice comparison! LB is infanticide, Martijn, just keep it. Try within 5 years. 😏
