Let's start the week off with another Left Bank Bordeaux the 2016 Les Clos Des Carmes Haut-Brion. The second wine from Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion a blend of 51% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot.

On the nose the is brambly black fruit, black cherry, cherry, raspberry, blackberry, plum, vegital notes, bay leaf, chocolate, currants and minerals.

On the palate I am getting black cherry, cherry, plum, blackberry, vegital notes, green bell pepper, violets and minerals.

This wine is medium to full bodied with medium + acidity and medium+ grippy tannins that has a long dark fruit mineral finish. Have a great week and stay healthy and safe for the rest of the week. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

This wine is all about the greatness of the fruit. So ripe and fragrant. Healthy vines and optimal harvesting. Wine doesn't overwhelm with variety of aromas and flavours but strikes with its depth and precision. Concentration of fruit wrapped in violets.

First dinner with guests (2) since February. Doors open, hepa filters, masks, and we got tested first. Precautions were maybe over the top but both families are in contact with elderly people so we wanted to be careful. The wine delivered. Clos de Rochegres Moulin-a-Vent Gamay 2015

Beautiful purple / garnet color. Fine and complex nose, fruity and floral: peony rose. Deep on the palate, somewhere between a beefy Burgundy Pinot Noir and a Syrah from Rhone-Nord; to be mistaken. At first glance discreet, the finish reveals itself on tender and finely persistent tannins. The whole is very homogeneous and dense. A wine with a Burgundy style, delicate, which will be able to age for a number of years.

Belle robe pourpre/grenat. Nez fin et complexe, fruité et floral: rose pivoine. Bouche profonde, quelque part entre un pinot noir bourguignon et une Syrah du Rhone-Nord; à s’y méprendre. La finale de prime abord discrète, se révèle sur des tanins tendres et finement persistants. L’ensemble et très homogène et dense. Un vin au style bourguignon, délicat, qui pourra encore vieillir pas mal d’années.

Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe berry fruits, pleasant spice and earthy notes. Clos L'Eglise has a wine-producing tradition spread over several centuries. A blend of 80% Merlot & 20% Cab Franc, 100% new oak, on the palate flavors of ripe Cherry & Strawberry, with notes of vanilla, licorice, cacao & cedar, lively acidity with great mouthfeel. Fine tannins, still have some power that open nicely, long finish ending with toasty cedar, tobacco and earthy spice, just starting to drink well, should continue to age nicely! Wow! — 10 days ago

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2009

I opened this as part of a virtual Clos de Papes tasting with the WNH. Other vintages opened were 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2015.

After a two hour decant, this was still quite thin. Hour three it opened and finally in hour four it blossomed. Aromatically this was full of kirsch, licorice, herbs de Provence and a soft spicy red fruit profile. On the palate, the dominant note is very much black peppercorn crusted rhubarb. Crunchy and tart red and black fruit profile with a slightly sweet and lengthy finish. There was a distinct cherry liqueur and fig note with high acidity. Good lift here. Definitely zero funk. With this needing a couple hours to open, I’d say this is just now entering a prime drinking window with a lengthy window ahead.

The most Burgundian of all. WOTN. Yes, it has loads of oak, but it perfectly suits the wine. It's not heavy vanilla, but elegant and in unison with all other elements. Pure and perfume which takes you to the top sites of Cot d'Or. Peak maturity now. Splendid wine!
