Opened about an hour before service. No formal notes. The 1996 Château La Rame “Réserve du Château” pours a deep burnished copper/gold color with medium+ viscosity. Layers of delicious dried apricots, candied lemon, honeysuckle, nuts, with perfectly balanced acid. This is a rich and decadent dessert wine that reminds me of Sauternes (as it should considering it's 100% old-vine Sémillion affected by botrytis) and and a lovely pairing with what was an artistic, deconstructed take on a lemon meringue pie. Not totally fresh but fine split and consumed quickly. — 9 months ago
Sweet aroma explosion. Light honey, Mirabelle plums, apricots, white tea, candied orange peel, yet it remains so fresh.
On the palate this is so balance, so juicy, v. sweet to still fresh. And there’s depth, a hint of tannic structure, a stony, mineral finish.
