Watson Ranch Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2019 Chardonnay Watson Ranch is open-knit and seductive. Orchard fruit, chamomile, spice and dried herbs all meld together in a pliant Chardonnay that offers a striking mix of textural richness and energy. Watson Ranch is the southernmost vineyard in Napa Valley, a cool-climate pocket that yields a Chardonnay of real distinction. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2021)

Le Casque

Sierra Foothills Syrah 2016

Silky dark purple flowers. A WE 93. First impression wasn’t that high, but you don’t want the ride to end. Tiny winery... good stop for SFers on the back and forth to Tahoe. — a month ago

Domaine des Lambrays

Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru 1934

Tasted blind. Tawny color. Killer nose. Notes of bing cherry, raspberry, green olive tapenade and some other herbal notes. So very rich in the mouth. We’re pretty sure it’s burgundy but we’re guessing maybe some Syrah was added, as happened some times way back when. I concur with someone and a guess of 59 P Ponelle Musigny. We’re all amazed at how well this held up and showed. — 7 days ago

Toscanacci Sonoma Red Blend 2013

9.1

Don’t recall the blend composition, but it’s showing beautifully w/such a pure fruit profile vacillating back & forth between cherry & blackberry. Some dusty edges, medicinal, white pepper & baking spices, decent heft w/well-integrated tannins. Maybe Sangiovese, Zinfandel & Merlot? Many years ahead w/off the showroom floor vibe @ 8 yrs old — 2 days ago

Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir 2012

Beautiful. Needs a quick decant. That lets the oak char dissipate. Blind I might have guessed Gevrey or NSG. A bit burly initially, but the decant did the trick. Makes you want to come back for more. — 9 days ago

Serrat

Serrat Pinot Noir 2016

From the Mornington Peninsula (although the fruit for this Pinot Noir came from the Yarra Valley ) - this is Tom Carson’s personal project when he’s not making wine for Yabby Lake - his main job. This had strawberry and other red fruits like cherry and a small whole bunch influence. Oak is dialled right back. A medium weight palate that is yet to show its full potential. First of 3 purchased and somewhat closed. Will leave having the 2nd for a couple of years. — 2 days ago
