It’s my lucky day. This fell out of the sky. It has long been one of my inspirations. I tasted this soon after arriving in the Napa Valley and it has informed my stylistic thinking for over 40 years. Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife! Really a gorgeous bottle. Brick red. Muted nose of faded cassis. There is still a cassis core, though it's all about the tertiaries. Mushroom, leather, sage. Perfect acidity alive for a great balance.

We tasted this blind in a mixed lineup, nobody guessed domestic, let alone Cabernet Sauvignon! Very oxidative and rustic, like a Repasso Amarone. Very cool to taste, but I wouldn't want a whole bottle.
