Last night I opened the 2017 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County, California. It has been a little bit since I have had an Au Bon Climat from Jim Clendenen. Jim's work is always spot on and well worth what you pay.
On the nose there is cranberry, strawberry, cherry, anise, clove, spice and a nice earthiness.
On the palate there is cranberry, strawberry, cherry, caramel, herbal notes, red currant, light oak and that nice earthiness.
This wine is light to medium bodied with medium to medium + acidity and medium fine tannins that lead into a medium to medium long fresh fruit finish. Continued health to everyone. Please be safe and continue social distancing. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 17 days ago

First Pinot produced from this Kendall Jackson vineyard named after Jess Jackson’s daughter, Julia. Fruit forward with tons of fruit aromas, herb and oak notes, aged for 12 months in French oak, 25% new, making this wine fresh and vibrant good for drinking now, and some short-term aging. The 2016 was a good year with an early harvest with perfectly ripe fruit. On the palate, strawberry and cherry flavors with baking spice and gentle oak. Fine tannins, lingering ending with fruit and subtle spice character. — a month ago
This is a magnum of Jim Clendenen’s 2001 Harmony estate-bottled Chardonnay, “Nuits-Blanches Au Bouge” from the Santa Maria Valley in Santa Barbara County. Bien Nacido and Le Bon Climat vineyards. If you aren’t familiar with Jim or his Au Bon Climat and Clendenen Family labels, you are in for a treat. — 16 days ago

Planted in 1971, the fruit was selected from the oldest section of Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. Aromas of berry fruit with subtle floral and spice, aged for 22 months in new French oak. On the palate raspberry and cherry fruit flavors, a bit crisp with light oak tones. Firm tannins, a bit tight, lingering, ending with mineral notes. Very nice, tasting well now! — a month ago
Delicious on day 1. Bright fruit and lemon zest rounded out with butter and a clean finish. Green apple and some smoke on the nose. By day 3 you are left with a bit too much zing. — 5 days ago
Wow. I really like this wine. Cherry, raspberry flavors with a balanced after taste. Not much oak at all, very soft and light. I enjoyed it. — a month ago
Pip was a border collie at the winery and an entire line-up of wines was named after her. Important attributes of “Pip” wines are a shorter barrel age with less new wood using fruit from younger vines. These wines are drinkable upon release. Medium straw color, delicate aromas of stone and tropical fruits. On the palate subtle fruit flavors of apple and pear, with a mineral character. Medium finish enjoyable, good value!
