Viña Bosconia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2011

2011. Haven’t had the Bosconia before and liked it very much. Barrel aromas and flavors seem more forward here than in other Lopez de Heredia wines I’ve had. — 4 months ago

I love R Lopez de Heredia wines. Still made the way they were made hundred years ago. Wines for old souls who really appreciate timeless art and low intervention. — 5 months ago

Cantine Antonio Caggiano

Macchia dei Goti Taurasi Aglianico 2020

New-mown hay, blackberry brambles on the nose. Intensely fruit forward, but not sweet or cloying. Raspberries and blackberries. Light tannic structure, with mint and back pepper low notes, but it develops a pleasing minerality on its surprisingly long finish. I don’t know anything about this vintage, but it seems like it was grown on volcanic soils. The front reminds me of a Beaujolais Nouveau, but the finish is much more complex. A unique profile combination that I’ve never tasted before. Lovely. — 2 months ago

Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo 2000

Floral, tarry, delicate candied red fruits as well, great acidity and balance, likely very close to fully mature, but the combination of delicacy and depth is intoxication, great old Spanna!! — 5 months ago

@Tom Casagrande, I agree, I haven’t seen these in the marketplace much, I just posted on a 2003, and also have a few bottles of 1996 Boca left. But, your quality assessment is spot on!!

Viña Gravonia Crianza Rioja Viura 2016

It’s hard to find fully shed classic Viura (white Rioja) anymore but old-school Lopez de Heredia clings to tradition. This wine, nearly 10 years old on release, is fascinating - aged to the point of considerable oxidation yet it retains its fruit ands acidity. Bruised apple, ripe pear, golden raisin, orange peel, flint, wet stones, and hay happily coexist with hazelnut, dried orange peel, coconut, baking spices ands more. The medium acidity is a firm foundation to a richly textured wine, Long finish too! — 9 months ago

Hacienda Lopez de Haro (Bodega Classica)

Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2012

Blend of Tempranillo and Graciano. Medium ruby color with a dark core and orange rim. Aromas of coffee, leather, ripe red fruit, wet stones and forest floor. Flavors of black berry/currant/plum fruit, black licorice, balsamic vinegar and roasted meat and nuts. Long earthy and slightly spicy finish. Pleasant acidity and silky (but slightly chalky) tannins. Full bodied, round and elegant. Beautifully aged. Thanks for sharing, Keith S! Happy 60th Birthday, Karyn! — 2 months ago

Spanna Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo 2003

Spicy dried red fruits with a touch of tar underneath, I detect that this 2003 is a touch more structured and tannic than the great 2000 I had a few days ago, long finish, great acid, still quite fresh (plus 12.5% ABV), excellent!! — 5 months ago

Castillo de San Diego Palomino Fina 2021

ask the wine guy for something unusual, something off the beaten path and he recommends this delicious dry 100% Palomino w/some bottle age: definitely a food wine, light greenish straw color w/fairly austere nose full of minerals, lanolin, herbaceous musk, white flowers (jasmine), ginger & some spices. on palate it is rigid & angular, zesty acidity, some citrus but mostly minerals & herbs, quinine, screams for briny foods - we had this w/deli section fare & salad. — 8 months ago
