Concentrated but not over extracted. Profound depth of super old vines speaking clearly. Almost another dimension of flavours. Big but complex. — 5 years ago
Not a red wine drinker, however, this was wonderful. Easy, smooth, light — 6 years ago
Happy Father’s Day. The family made a beautiful lasagna & we picked this to be part of the meal. A powerful Barolo with darker fruit and ample tannins which add another dimension with the food. Aromatically, this delivers haunting florals & ripe dark cherry notes. A great example of balanced power and finesse. Excellent. — 6 years ago
The 2016 Gabbro, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, is one of the most compelling wines I have ever tasted from Montepeloso. In most prior vintages, Gabbro has been rich and concentrated, but the 2016 flows with a sense of total refinement. Wild flowers, herbs, licorice, lavender, graphite and spice add myriad shades of dimension to a core of dark, beautifully resonant fruit. A wine of real gravitas and structure, the 2016 is going to require a number of years to be at its best, but it is stunning, even in the early going. In fact, I am simply blown away by how integrated it already is. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2020)

An outstanding producer, the fruit quality and the winemaking rival the very best in Burgundy. Concentration and dimension combined with the aromas and flavors that surround the palate. The structure has a complete integrity and the surface has an immaculate polish. — 6 years ago
This is a stunning Garnatxa blend from Priorat (Catalonia), Spain!!
It’s comprised of mostly Garnatxa (Grenache), along with Syrah, and, to a lesser extent, Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from three parcels in the sun-soaked village of Gratallops, where Daphne Glorian purchased her first vineyard – Clos Escales – back in 1989 when she founded Clos i Terraces. 🍇
In making this move, she joined equally passionate and pioneering winemakers Álvaro Palacios (L’Ermita) and René Barbier (Clos Mogador) in a rebirth of production practices in the region; as a group (with other similar-minded producers) they altered the trajectory of Priorat’s profile as a source of tip top quality wines rivaling the best on the world stage. 👏🏻
Priorat is one of only two regions carrying the “DOCa” / “DOQ” quality designation (the other is Rioja), subject to various stipulations including regular auditing by a tasting panel. ✅
This particular wine is “Laurel” which is Clos i Terraces’s second wine, next to Clos Erasmus, one of Priorat’s finest and most sought-after wines. Yet it tastes like a flagship wine in and of itself.🫶🏻🫶🏻
It is absolutely beautiful, with a medium ruby hue, medium (+) intensity of ripe and fresh strawberry, red cherry, red plum, violet, black licorice, fennel, clove, baking spice aromas and flavors. It’s dry, with medium(+) acidity, a medium(+) body, high alcohol (14% ABV), and medium tannins that are fine-grained. 😆
This wine vinified and aged in a combination of vessels, including, large oak vats, concrete tanks, second and third fill French oak barrels, and clay amphorae, lending to its texture and complexity.👌🏻👌🏻

Juicy, waxy, mineral and spicy. Pineapple. Honeyed, with an incredible spice and tartness. So honeyed and delicious, but the acid and minerality provide unreal dimension. — 5 years ago

Superb! Smashing bottle of Cristal. Rich with incredible tension and purity, embodies class and elegance. Leads with a gorgeous mixture of fruit and autolytic notes; fresh baked brioche, tangerine marmalade, lemon and orange curd, nougat, spun sugar, toasted hazelnuts, red currants, spring honey, fine layer of fragrant exotic fruit pineapple or quince. Beneath the complexity really gains with the chalky tones really driving the nose and plate. Crushed and damp chalk, struck stones, the slightest edge of sweet herbs and smoke. The subtle spice and floral elements add dimension. Structurally I fine it hard to describe because the acidity has so much momentum but there is sufficient impact and depth to suggest that it is a rich wine. Overall it is supremely elegant and still holding onto its coiled and youthful state. Great potential but the pedigree is there to admire now. — 6 years ago
Even though still young, it drinks very well in 2020 without decanting. Deep color and medium-bodied. Nice dimension but the grapes come right through and it finishes really well. — 6 years ago
Lost my notes again.
We love this producer, but best drunk in its youth. Tannins and acid have all but left the building. Nice heady perfume, combines with sweetness and length, but has little to no structure. Red currants on the nose and palate. Complicated wood treatment adds the most interesting dimension. Get after this pinots now. — 6 years ago
This has more mineral dimension than the others. Lacks a little bit of tension in the foundation. — 4 years ago
Another year in bottle has added unexpected depths and dimension to the 2016 San Leonardo. It wafts up with an alluring bouquet of smoky black currant and plum skins, complicated by savory herbs, hints of white pepper and fresh tobacco. It's hard chiseled edges have formed into smooth contours now, velvety yet youthfully dense, washing mineral encased dark red and black berries across a core of brisk acidity as a combination of saline-minerals and grippy tannins add tension toward the close. This finishes incredibly long yet also structured, begging for time in the cellar, as hints of licorice and earth tones grumble under an air of inner violet florals. The potential within the 2016 San Leonardo is off the charts, yet it will require a good amount of time to come fully into focus. Bury your bottles deep. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2022)

Black and red cherry fruit mix with a touch of oak spice along with a loamy, mineral accent. Nice Pinot fruit in the palate but missing a touch of texture with leanish tannins. I bit dusty in the finish. Enjoyable but lacks a bit of charm and dimension. Doesn’t appear to be any huge upside to much more cellar time. — 4 years ago
Simple pizza dinner with David June 9 BD. Interesting Tuscan Sangiovase not from Chianti but further south Morellino Scansano and has more weight and dimension. Nose particularly compelling with mix of cherries berries and forest notes. Silky palate and good finish. AA18. — 5 years ago
Such elegance: quite a bit of Brett has to blow off, & the sour patch uni- dimension opens up to a purer, layered light cherry palate & nose. Beautiful bottle too, with a paper wrap under the capsule and a heavy, well constructed bottle. Dressner importer — 6 years ago
Nose of dark berries, hint of dark chocolate, and a touch of grassy (!) barnyard, but nowhere near a burgundy like another poster suggests. Closer to a rich Beaujolais (Moulin a Vent?) with a tick more acidity in the nose.
Palate is dry, with pronounced dark berries, punchy, with prominent but well balanced acidity to carry the palate without being overburdening. 2010 vintage has lost its tannic acidity to a point where the berries almost (but only almost!) become too pronounced causing a missing dimension, even with semi-fat-heavy food; the remaining “fruity” acidity helps though.
Generally great development of nose and palate already within 2 hours.
At €19/bottle for 2010 vintage easy to recommend :)
