Bevan makes a pinot at 14.3 ABV?! Granted, it tastes hotter than that and is still what I call a cab lovers pinot. However, the smoked meat, grilled black cherry, black peppercorn, and potpourri aromatics were stellar. Candied cherry covered beef jerky palate and finish. This is the best young Addax Pinot made to date, in my opinion. Thanks, @Bill Makens . — 3 months ago
Thank you Brian and Russell for the sneak peak!!
Dark ruby red. Lush nose with cinnamon, twigs, raspberries, and cherries. Medium acidity (6.5/10) and medium to medium plus bodied. Lush and layered palate with red berries, spices and some freshly broken twigs. Long finish. Drink till 2027. — a year ago
Without a doubt, this was the best time to drink this wine. A very tropical nose, with hints of mango and melon and candied walnut. The entry did not seem to have as much citrus influence as the nose did. However, this wine has not lost very much despite the 2014 label might suggest. This was surprisingly crisp. More to the mango and honeydew side. I had mentioned a tart note at the last entry, which was all but gone this time around. LOTS of floaters in the bottle. Finished very strong, and actually wishing I had a few more of these, as I don't really see this one going anywhere for the next two or three years. Solid bottle. Outdid a Bevan labeled 2014 that it was enjoyed right beside which already has lost a step IMO. — 3 months ago
Part 1 of the final and main event for the Fall WNH. The most spectacular lineup of wines I’ve ever seen, and an overall wonderful ending to an amazing trip with fantastic people.
I’ve had many of Bevan’s other label SauvBlancs (Bevan, Addax) that are unfiltered and to me, there is more fruit here than the others. Very tropical...mango & guava. Rich palate that is very honeyed. The finish has the limestone/stone fruit traits of the others. A fantastic Cali SB. Thanks @Joe Lucca ! — 10 months ago
What an incredible second day here in Napa. Jesus started us off with an amazing tasting at Davies/Schramsberg, Crocker & Starr gave us our cab franc fix, Montagu & Addax put on a double tasting, and Hourglass knocked it out of the park at the end of the day! I won’t post each wine we tasted, but I’ll highlight the best from each spot.
One of the best winery visits we’ve ever done in our now 4 years is coming out. A combo of perfect weather, a great host, and no rush due to time constraints. One of the most beautiful caves I’ve ever seen. Similarities here to the Bevan cab, but this showed a bit more give and flex. Gorgeous bouquet of blue and black fruit. Plum, espresso and some dark chocolate. Loved it. — 2 years ago
Compared to the 2014 Addax SB this was tasted alongsidez this had much less citrus on the palate and less acidity up front although it turned it on a bit on the finish. Still never reached the Addax in terms of this. This wine is more Asian pear and some green melon with a grassy note to the finish. Still quite full bodied for a 5 year old SB and a really neat comparison to the Addax of the same year which is sourced from the same fruit with the same winemaker. This one probably would have gone better with food whereas the Addax was definitely a better summertime 'poolside pounder.' Very neat side by side. — 3 months ago
After all the Cimarossa reds I’ve enjoyed, I figured it was time I gave this a fair shake. Only time I’ve had this was while visiting the winery a year or so ago, but it was just a splash. Hay/straw color in the glass, with quite the savory aromatics...lots of sea salt and guava. Reminds me a bit of the Addax SauvBlanc (though more filtered). Limestone, melon and just a kiss of sweet tropical fruit on the palate. The finish is a very solid balance of fruit and savory/herbal notes. Acidity is medium and certainly a more full/round version of Cali SB. Consensus? I love every. single. wine. that Cimarossa offers. — 4 months ago
Second stop on day three and finally made it to Napa. We tasted through some wines from Standard Deviation Wines and Addax Wines with Josh and Cheryl at Brasswood. First up for Addax Wines is the Sonoma Coast Chardonnay from a couple high end vineyards. Aged in 100% new French oak and only eight barrels produced. Made by Russell Bevan.
Medium to deep golden yellow. Rich nose with baked apples, marzipan and buttered popcorn. Medium acidity (6.5/10) and full bodied. Creamy citrus elements on the palate with some baked apples, nutty and some tropical notes too. Long and lingering finish. Big and powerful Chardonnay. Drink till 2027.
