Second stop on day three and finally made it to Napa. We tasted through some wines from Standard Deviation Wines and Addax Wines with Josh and Cheryl at Brasswood. First up for Addax Wines is the Sonoma Coast Chardonnay from a couple high end vineyards. Aged in 100% new French oak and only eight barrels produced. Made by Russell Bevan.

Medium to deep golden yellow. Rich nose with baked apples, marzipan and buttered popcorn. Medium acidity (6.5/10) and full bodied. Creamy citrus elements on the palate with some baked apples, nutty and some tropical notes too. Long and lingering finish. Big and powerful Chardonnay. Drink till 2027.

$$$ - Retail price is $65.00.

Today was my first time to host Wednesday Wine Committee. I’ve had the good fortune of attending on and off over the last two years and was delighted to finally host a lunch. As many of the wines I brought today I’ve posted on here before, I’m posting the white wine of the day and the red wine of the day. As always, the format of 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine was in play and everything was tasted blind.

As many of you know, I love Addax wines. Bevan does a wonderful job, as to be expected, and their SauvBlanc is my favorite domestic SB. Sadly, the ‘14 vintage was their last...and their one white is now a chardonnay. It is a Ritchie and Benovia vineyard combo and already tastes so incredibly well at this age. This is creamy like Bevan’s Ritchie chards with a hint of Ritchie nuttiness, but the Benovia vineyard brings about a mineral and sweet note. Great weight and finish. Few guesses of Aubert chard, Montagu Ritchie...good company to be in!

Really good chard. Poured more of an amber color than I thought. Nose of bay breeze, oyster shell, salinity, yellow fruit. Entry of cantaloupe, banana, herbal character. Very round on the front, and then dries to an acidic character in the middle and finish. This wine is really quite dense on the front and yet doesn't seem to impose with whatever is paired with it. Has a lot of density, complexity and balance, and I think this one has many years left. Bottle didn't last long!
