der Kabinett Riesling 2018

🏅 Rating 91/100 (4,1⭐)

First nose is tight and reserved. With time, aeration and temperature, it opens up with tropical fruits: pineapple. Some herbs. So concentrated on the palate. The residual sugar (45 g/l) nicely integrates with racy acidity of Riesling. Harvested at 86° Oechsle it is then fermented with ambient yeasts to low 9% Alc. Love the style of this Kabinett: elegance and finesse. Accentuated finish. Solar vintage, indeed. Huge potential ahead.

Anna Reimann together with her husband in 2016 acquired an existing winery and 5ha of vineyards. A year later they bought Johann Peter Reinert Estate and expanded to northern Saar vineyards. This is definitely a rising star and the address to watch.

Elegant, all around balanced Kabinett Riesling. I paired it with Wild Planet tuna sandwich from BrewBerry in Anaheim, CA — 5 years ago

wittenger schlangengraben spätlese trocken Riesling 2015

@Delectable this is the wittenger schlangengraben spätlese trocken. Lime zest and ripe orchard fruit and the least bit of confectioners sugar on the nose. Herbs and meadow flowers, without that honey or vanilla thing that comes with it. A touch of chamomile. Kumquats or limequats on the tongue. Very good, almost spicy from the citrus acid feeling. Good minerals, they dance on the palate with the acids, very alive, and I love that. Not terribly concentrated but it could go for a decade or two easily. What structure, good wine. 11%, but weightless. Bonus points for a vineyard name which is hilarious to the adolescent inside me. — a year ago

Wiltinger Klosterberg Spätlese Alte Reben Saar Riesling 2015

Trocken, but the overwhelming richness gives the impression of a fair amount of RS. Wet, gray slate and rainwater. Just enough acidity, but still a typical, fatty 2015. #reinert #saar #riesling — 2 years ago

Kanzemer Sonnenberg Auslese Riesling 2003

Just underipe mango spice with the slightest residual mineral mouth buzz, citruses like lemon and grapefruit with wildflower or clover honey, pear sweetness, a lingering camel light tobacco leaf, gasoline finish like I drank it from a plastic tank. 7.5%: very good on a humid day, refreshing, thirst quenching. The acid develops in the air, getting more citrusy and slightly bitter, becomes more piquant and the honey becomes more beeswaxy. It expands in the mouth, poolside finish is long.
