Tawny Port

Quinta do Portal

10 Year Old Tawny Port Blend

Confrérie Des Chevaliers du Tastevin Sous-Commanderie d'Albany; 20 September 2020 at New World Bistro, Albany, NY

Physically Distanced 🚧 but Socially Close 🤗 dinner, our first in +8mo. Following the reasonable NY State dining regulations, seated and masked. While a new experience, it was well worth it to see our core group again.

Vintage Port Blend 2003

Jan A

Strong vintage for taylors in 2003. Still a little bit of heat which blew off after two hours, needs a couple more years. 96+ — 6 days ago

10 Year Old Tawny Porto Blend

Rusty Ruby.
Thin legs. Cherry and caramel nose
Nice depth but a little too tannic and bitter on the finish.

20 Year Old Tawny Porto

Rusty tawny color, no legs.
Mellow vanilla nose, hint of cherry
Alcohol is mild without overpowering, thick mouth feel with mild tannic after taste.
Aged very well. Worth the price, would rebuy

Father 10 Years Grand Tawny Port Blend

Quite lovely! Honey, butterscotch, cedar, and bourbon. Complex and very refined. Medium thickness but deep and very long finish. Even a slight hint of Sauternes at the end. Great value. Drank over 3 months. — a month ago

Doug's Vineyard-Romsey Pinot Noir 2018

Wow, this is a big pinot with a marvellous tannin.
Bright and quiet vibrant.
There's leather, cinnamon, forest floor, musk.
White pepper, very floral, a blueberry with raspberries around. The green balsamic side is a delicate Thai mint rather than a straightforward eucalyptus. Tobacco leaves and more notes given by the very present oak component.
I trust this wine will find a better harmony on the sweet side in a while, perhaps when the tannin will soften.
However this is very different vest from the 19s and the 17s., more complex already and even though I believe this wine will age gracefully for a bit I find it already on a secondary stage compared to the formers. I am very fascinated, it reminded of a Vosne from Dom. Laurent.
Long after taste, excellent!

If you haven't tried it yet I highly recommend it. To me he is in that little group of great young producer like Sami-Odi or Lucy Margaux. Plenty of character and flavour. 🙏

20 Year Old Tawny Port Blend

Had this a year+ ago, tried a new batch, noticed label color changed. A big fan of Tawny Ports, especially the 20 year blends are a Fav. Fonseca Port was founded in 1822 and successive generations of the Guimaraens family have upheld the Company’s reputation. Medium amber color with aromas of honey and pronounced nutty notes. On the palate ripe dried fruits with sweet cinnamon spice and oak emerge from the glass. Soft tannins long smooth finish ending with a sweet nutty character. Very nice. — a month ago
